Freebie Review 19 - Caramel Delight Cereal

Edit by Goob: The stupid smart sample links keep looping back here to this site (one of their anti-spam measures gone haywire!), so you’ll have to right click on the link and manually copy it to your browser. Sorry folks!

Hi everyone out there! I’ve got a good freebie review for you today. It’s Saturday (edit by Goob: oops!) and not much freebie stuff arrives, but today one did and I’m gonna review it for you. The freebie we are going to talk about is Fiber One’s “Caramel Delight” Cereal. Mine arrived on March 8th, 2008 and I signed up for it back on January 24th…So almost two months waiting for it…I’ve waited longer for stuff.

It arrived in a heavy little cardboard box that has the company’s product on every inch of the box. On the side of it is the quote “Fiber meets Flavor!” Let’s hope so I thought. Upon opening the box there was a second little box, it reminds me of those little kid variety packs you buy at the store. Inside that box, finally I got to the little foil package of the cereal. I must say I like the double box, it makes less squished cereal which I have had happen with food samples before. Cereal out of the foil and into the bowl. There looked to be about a cup of it there but upon further reading the cereal box it states “this sample contains less then one cup” which one cup is the serving size…whatever. On to the cereal.

It smells really good, like cinnamon and honey, but the ingredients contain none of that. Whole grain, wheat, sugar, corn bran chicory root extract and rice bran are just a few of the ingredients. I’m seriously telling you though, I smell cinnamon and honey. This cereal reminds me of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, shape and look wise. Tasting it before the milk it tastes like French toast, which is not a bad thing. Okay, milk added and the little squares float around like they are in their own little swimming pool. Tasting it with milk, tastes like even better French toast. Maybe it’s just my taste buds or something, lol. The cereal doesn’t seem to become soggy either, which is a great thing…who wants soggy cereal right?

Well, General Mills did good with this cereal. Back late last year or earlier this year, Fiber One gave away free samples of the Original Fiber One cereal, which also didn’t suck, so I think this is something everyone might like. There are also other flavors besides Caramel and Original. Two of them are, Raisin Bran Clusters and Honey Clusters, both of which I hope we get to sample. Along with the free sample was a 1.00$ off coupon, which isn’t bad at all. I priced this cereal at Wal-Mart and Shop and Save and it was anywhere from 1.99$ to 2.99$. A dollar off, well worth it in my opinion.

This is a cereal that I would most definitely buy after trying the sample. This is a great snacking cereal also, lol…If you’d like to try this, then today’s your lucky day! The free Caramel Delight cereal is back up, so sign up before it dies again! Let me know if the link doesn’t work for you either, it was acting a little wonky for me earlier this morning.

Rating (1-5) :) :) :) :) :)

Free Seattle’s Best Coffee

I don’t care what people say, I’d rather have some free Seattle’s Best coffee over a free pack of Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts coffee. Although I almost didn’t qualify for this freebie because I kept forgetting to check which flavor I wanted sent to me. I guess that’s what happens when you try to sign up for freebies in the morning before having a cup of coffee yourself!

HIF: No Longer Depressing To Look At!

Well holy moly, what do we have here? That’s right folks, I grew bored with that bland layout we had before (TOO MUCH GREY!) and decided to slap together something new that used more than two primary colors. Of course, I might have gone a little overboard with strong colors, but for now this is what we’re working with here on HIF :)

Of course, I guarantee you I’ve messed up the site somewhere. So if you see anything that looks weird or outright doesn’t work, please let me know in the comments and I’ll get on it! I’ve tested the layout in Firefox, IE 7, and Safari and I don’t see anything too goofy, but I very well could have missed something. Thanks everybody and I hope there are more people out there who like the new look than who hate it!

P.S. If you are having trouble reading the site, let me know. My mom mentioned it hurt her eyes before, so I tweaked it a little. But who knows, maybe I didn’t tweak it enough. Let me know, because if nobody says anything, I’ll assume it’s fine.

Free Music Downloads from Steven Foxbury

Continuing along with my free download offering from the other days, I’d like to share another personal favorite musician of mine who has a ton of awesome free downloads on their site. Steven Foxbury. Just head over to the third dot on the site there and its for the music page, and there are 2 EPs and 1 LP worth of music, all available for your listening pleasure.

I’ve been lucky enough to see Steve open for 7M3 twice, and each time I see him, he gets better and better. A great lyricist and all around enjoyable listen.

And if you like that, well, I’m still surfing, but I’ve found a few other artists here or there that I might have to start sharing full free downloads from the musicians themselves. Some musicians allow it, others don’t. Just need to keep your eye out to find a few of them…

Back later with more, folks… I just pulled this one from a draft that I’ve had saved for a while, seeing I’m still settling in from the wife and I moving this past weekend…

Free Ultra XCID Antacid

Want some free free Ultra XCID antacid? Yeah, I’m not sure if I do either. If the word “antacid” wasn’t in the title, I’d have absolutely no clue what this freebie was. If I saw something like “Ultra XCID” I’d guess it was some sort of space robot or maybe a new car. They always have stupid names, like the Infinity or the Ultima. One day I’d like to see a car come out called the Pulverizer. How about the Goob? That sounds like a great name for a vehicle. Wait, where was I? Oh yeah, something about free heartburn relief!

Free Solar USB Drive

Here’s yet another free USB drive that I doubt any of us will ever get. But hey, IBM is giving them away and they’re solar! Wait, what? A solar USB stick? What the heck is that? I don’t know about you, but my computer gets on average 6 minutes of sunlight on it a week. If I need solar energy to make this thing work, I might be in a little trouble then!

March 2008 Contest!

EDIT 4: The first games have started, so entry to the contest is now closed. Good luck, everybody!

EDIT 3: I’ve removed the password requirement and added help info in the comments for anybody who might need it in signing up.

EDIT 2: In order to join the group, you need to have a free Yahoo account. Signing up for one is as easy as signing up for a freebie, just put a bunch of random info in. :) I picked Yahoo over ESPN, Facebook, etc. because it’s really user friendly, especially to people who don’t know anything about college basketball!

EDIT: It’s 3:00 and only three people have signed up? Man, somebody has some good odds to win the cash prize :D

It’s been a while since we’ve had contest here at HIF and the one I’m currently working on won’t be ready for a week or two at the least. But I really want to have one now (I sound like a whiny kid, haha), so I thought why not have a March Madness contest?! I’ve created a group on Yahoo that any Hiffer can join and the winner will get $25! It’s not a lot of money, but I promise you your odds of winning are great since none of us know what the heck we’re doing when it comes to correctly picking college basketball games :)

Entry is obviously free and if you’ve never followed the NCAA tournament before, this could be your perfect excuse to watch and follow along this year! If you’re interested, click the link below and use the password to join the group, then just click the teams until you’ve filed out your whole bracket, and you’re all set!

Group: http://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/t1/group/157337/

As far as scoring, it’s super easy. You get points for making correct picks, incorrect picks don’t penalize you, and the person with the most points at end wins.

First Round 1 point
Second Round 2 points
Third Round 4 points
Fourth Round 8 points
Semis 16 points
Championship 32 points

Don’t be shy, people! Join our group, have a little fun with fellow Hiffers who have no idea what they’re doing, and follow along in the conversation over on the forums! You have until around noon tomorrow to sign up and play.

Free Vaseline Intensive Rescue Lotion

This free Vaseline Intensive Rescue lotion looks awful similar to a bottle of Head & Shoulders shampoo to me. Which is pretty dangerous, because early in the morning I never have my contacts in. The last thing I need is everything in the bathroom to look the same through my blurry eyes. Before long, I’ll be washing my hair with toothpaste and brushing my teeth with lotion!

Free Dexatrim Max2o

Do people seriously have a hard time drinking water? I see so many flavored water drinks out there, like this free Dexatrim Max2o (that’s also supposed to help you lose weight or something) and I can’t help but feel it’s a little overkill. I drink around a gallon of water a day and it tastes just fine to me! But if you need strawberry kiwi lemon lime orange cherry flavored water, you might want to give this one a try and see how you like it.

Free Colgate Total Toothpaste

EDIT: This is dead now!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted a freebie from Wal Mart, but this free Colgate Total toothpaste ends the drought. Now if I could just get a free toothbrush, because my old one is down to about nine bristles.

Free Music Download from Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers

Sometimes, I think my only purpose in posting here is just to post some new album for download that I happen across… Then, I wake up and realize that I’m just a lazy bum.

Needless to say, Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers have released their new album, The Total Ocho on their site. And not only have they released it, but you can also buy it via the lovely sliding scale model that so many musicians are using nowadays. So if you choose to buy it for $0 dollars, you just fill in your billing information, and whammo, they e-mail you a download link…

Or, if you just decide, you can always kick them a few bucks. As I’ve learned from doing my own downloads on my site, the whole sliding scale thing works wonders where for as many folks that download for free, someone’s always nice enough to kick a little back…

And that, is how the music world goes round…

Free 128mb USB Thumb Drive

I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a free thumb drive despite the face that I’ve signed up for at least 10 of them over the years. But 3M is a pretty darn good company when it comes to following through on their freebie promises, so I didn’t hesitate to sign up for this free 128mb USB thumb drive. Sure, 128 megs isn’t really much, but it’ll still hold some songs or a ton of text/excel documents for school or work. Plus, it’s free…I think I’d take a 1mb thumb drive if it was free!

Free Album Download from Semi Precious Weapons

Well you might remember a few weeks back when I provided a nice little link for a free download form Aaron Lee Tasjan? Well if you liked Aaron and thought maybe that was a little too folky for you and wanted a taste of some glam or a bit more rock? You couldn’t have looked any further than this post, honestly.

A band that Aaron’s in called Semi Precious Weapons is giving away their debut 10 song album for free on their website. Yup, just head over to their website and head over to their shop and when you put in your name, zip, and e-mail? They e-mail you a nice little link to download their album.

So there you go, something rockin’ for ya to kick your week off to. Heads up, some of the lyrics are NSFW and Parental Advisory should be noted, so keep that in mind when you do enjoy…

Free Quaker Simple Harvest

The free Quaker Simple Harvest sample is live again, so get in on it while it lasts! I posted this back in January, but they’ve since updated the freebie options to include your choice of either a dark chocolate chunk granola bar or a maple brown sugar with pecans hot cereal packet. Personally, I’m going with the cereal packet this time around simply because my room is close to negative fifty degrees and I’m pretty sure if I don’t try and warm up my core temperature soon, I’m going to freeze to death.

Free ICE Sticker

I’m only posting this free ICE sticker (In Case of Emergency) because it reminded me of my college days. The sticker is meant to go on your phone so as to alert medical crews that you have emergency contact information in your cell phone. But back in college, my buddy Ronak was part of the ICE group - Indian Cultural Education group. You could only join it if you were of Indian decent, which kinda defeated the purpose to me but whatever, and as a result Ronak pretended like it was some secret organization akin to the Stonecutters.

Now if you’ve gotten to know me over the years, you know I like to do random and stupid things. Thus, I ran with his idea and pretended the ICE group really was a secret organization. I started making up chants and dances and handshakes that I imagined a secret organization might have. I’d dance around campus as we walked to and from class, doing me secret ice dance (which involved me throwing actual ice cubes in the air to try and make something like a Batman signal) and people would think I was nuts. To this day, whenever I see an old college buddy from Freshman year, I do the ICE dance and pull out the secret code to see if they still remember it. Ahhh, to have that much time on my hands again!

Freebie Review 18 - Cookies and Granola Bars

Hello you crazy freebie getters! You’ve got Shaynon and special guest Abby here today to do a freebie review on Nabisco Oreo 100 Calorie Packs and Chewy Granola Bars.

This freebie was first posted in June 07 sometime, but it was still active and I signed up for it on December 4th and received it on December 20th 2007. This was a freebie from Sams Club.

I’ve set up a little tape recorder before hand so I can tape the conversation that Abby and I have about this freebie. What follows is our conversation!

Free Redken for Men

EDIT: This freebie is dead now.

I post this link to free Redken for Men simply as a call to all Hiffers - what the heck is this? Of course, I’m being semi-facetious as I figure it’s some sort of hair styling product. But I’m thinking this is some sort of food item that’s masquerading as a hair product. Just look at the description on Redken’s own page.

Construct styles with chunky separation, oversized pieces and a matte finish. Crunch-free formula contains mineral salts for immediate grab and texture with maximum control. Visit our product catalog to learn more about Outplay texture putty.

Chunky, oversized pieces, salts, and putty - four adjectives that could be used to describe peanut butter! In fact, I’m confident to break the news to the world right now: Redken for Men is in fact peanut butter. It’s the new, hip trend for men nation wide this summer and us Hiffers can get in on the look first. Freebies and trendsetting - how much cooler can we afford to get?

Free Universal Fighting System Card Game

I was never really into Magic The Gathering as a kid. A few of my friends played it in school, but I had far too short of an attention span to try and learn all those different rules and combona….oh look, there’s a butterfly! So pretty! Sorry, where was I? Oh yeah, freebies. My brothers and I collected Pokemon cards while growing up, but we never actually learned how to use them. We simply collected in a futile effort to get every card known to man. Gee, what a wasted youth! But who knows, maybe you’re reading this and thinking it sounds like fun.

Well then, I have just the freebie for you. Turns out there’s a new card game out there and in an effort to spread it across the country, you can now get two free demo decks of the Universal Fighting System card game. Just imagine if you and all your friends signed up for this and then started playing it in class - you’d be the envy of every nerd in sight! Then you’d probably get beat up by the jocks, but I’m telling ya, you’ve never lived until you’ve been shoved into a locker upside down. Not that I’d know anything about that though…

Free Healthy To Go Drink Mix

How many times have you wanted to be healthy only to be iunterrupted by having to go? No, not that kind of “going,” get your mind out of the gutter. I’m talking about just being too busy to be healthy and always going places. Take for instance the following scene that I totally made up but that I feel like 100% accurate for everybody in the world.

Billy: Gee golly, I sure wish I could be healthy right now, but I’m so late! I need to go, go, go right now!
Sally: Why don’t worry, you can be healthy AND go! Just drink this free Healthy To Go drink mix and you’ll be all set!
Billy: Holy moly, that’s space age stuff right there! But does it taste good?
Sally: Who cares, it’s healthy and you can go with it!
Billy: Well in that case, I’m sold!

I know, my powers of imagination and dialogue writing are outstanding. I’ll be waiting for my Emmy now.

Free Sunsilk Shampoo

How does Sunsilk even make a profit? It seems like every time I turn around, they’ve giving away another batch of free Sunsilk shampoo. Now don’t get me wrong, I love freebies, but I’m worries about Sunsilk. Is everything okay with them? Do they even have somebody in charge of overseeing how much money the company has? If not, they should totally hire me. On my first day, I’d get into the computers and change everything so that all Sunsilk shampoo at every store was free. I’d probably go to jail for a while after that, but it’d be totally worth it, as my hair would be silky smooth, clean, and smell great. Wait, on second thought, that might not be the best quality to have while in prison.
