It’s great to see so much discussion — pro and con — about menstrual cups!

For those who find the idea of using a reusable menstrual cup less than appealing, just consider the ACTUAL NUMBERS of tampons and pads the typical woman uses once, then tosses into the environment.

The numbers add up, as the following photos show.

At http://www.Keeper.com, we recently posted a new Comparison Photo Page, which actually SHOWS the amount of waste caused by tampon use in one month, one year, ten years, and forty years. (We based our photos on 18 tampons used per month, and calculated that most women menstruate for approximately 40 years.)

I am simply laying out my experiences with all the options, I HAVE tried both tampons, and cups, and in my experience, the cup works better.
From all these comments on how ‘gross’ a cup is, it is clear to me that maybe only 2 or 3 women commenting here, including me, have tried the cup. I’m fairly sure most who are commenting have tried, or are currently using tampons. I think it is rude that people who have no idea what a cup is, or how to use it are making it to sound so dreadful. For ME, tampons are very painful, they absorb all the moisture that is supposed to be there, and are painful to remove. For me.
I know wost women use tampons with no problem…good for them.
I also know the majority of women don’t know anything about menstrual cups, and all the negative comments, from those who have never used one, may deter them from ever trying it.
My intention is NOT to put anyone down for their choices, if some feel I have, I’m sorry.
My intention was to give a more open-minded view on alternative options.

You think it’s rude for people to be so derogatory over a menstrual cup, but you have no problem acting the same with tampons. If they don’t want to try it, fine. I have and found it incredibly uncomfortable. I’ll stick to tampons any day. Please do not be a hypocrite and put down others for their decision and then act disgusted at theirs.

I completely agree with you Kris.
I am not intending to argue, I just think its is unfortunate that so many are misinformed, or just uninformed about alternatives out there in feminine hygiene. I always struggled terribly with my cycles, I have P.C.O.S. among other female troubles, and my life genuinely improved when started using the Diva Cup. Tampons always hurt me so much, and there is NO pain with a cup.
If someone else’s life could be improved with an introduction to a menstrual cup, I want them to know about it.
I’m just thinking, your getting it for free…..why not look into it?? If you truly think it is unsanitary, read about it, inform yourself. We can never learn too much.

Hey, I totally agree to disagree. Like I said before, to each their own. It really doesn’t hurt to have an open mind and not dismiss things that are unfamiliar until you have tried it. Just one more not, if the menstrual cup was really unsanitary, it wouldn’t still be around.

Anywho, I will not comment further as I really do respect everyone’s opinions and it’s not worth an argument. The post was initially for a free water bottle, anyway.

were not freaked out…just think it out. Would you rather let some “piece of cotton” absorbing the dead tissue or let it flow to and fro within a plastic cup nestled up in your nether region…hmmm not a tough one…I speak for the majority here.

You can stick whatever you want “up there” (as you say Kris) just please stop raving about it…I understand how the guys feel when they are bombarded with feminine hygiene product commercials every 6 minutes or so on TV.

Oh my! You all remind me of fourth graders having that special meeting at school about “life”. If you all think things are so horrible with menstration, it makes me wonder how many of you have ponder the “disgustingness” of sex. If this freebie makes your spine quivver, please don’t watch the Discovery channel.
PS- If you all think this is gross, be thankful you haven’t seen the kitchen of your favorite restaurant!

I’d personally rather have it in a cup “hanging out inside of me” than a piece of cotton shoved up there…or a nasty pad stuck in my panties. Perhaps if young girls were informed about all of the options that are out there other than what is just “standard”, you all wouldn’t be so freaked out by it.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion…(although, I don’t know what ‘groce’ means) but speaking from experience, if you have used a tampon, pad, or cup, then you know there is no ‘not gross’ way to handle your menstrual cycle…it all has gross parts. What is the difference if ‘it’ is sitting in a cup, if ‘it’ has been absorbed by a tampon, or if ‘it’ is sitting in a pad, stuck to your panties???
I personally think it is gross to use a pad, and have all that ’stuff’ leaking out everywhere. eeuw.
If the way a woman cares for her cycle makes you question what this world is coming to, I think you might have bigger problems.
And I think it’s kind of rude for so many to be so derogatory over a menstrual cup. It’s my first pick for my cycle. So there. : )
