It does state that homeschoolers are welcome. I have homeschooled my grands for 6 years. I signed up, and no need to lie. I think it's great, and the kids will be thrilled! I'm thankful this is listed here!

Everyone STFU. It's FREE. Those of you who are on your high horses about how it's "only for educators" have to realize that lego can afford to give out as many kits as they want. They're a huge corporation. Do you lie about being a business? Do you make up phone numbers? If so, don't cast any stones. Don't be so serious...it's a freebie site.

And here's the link to their new online form, which asks more specific questions such as the name of the school where you teach, the subjects you teach, and what Lego products you use in the classroom.

Lego sent this email on June 6. I think it's kind of ironic that someone in the educational field misspelled the word "receive."

We Are In An Educational Pickle And Need Your Help!

LEGO® Education North America launched the LEGO SmartTM Creativity Contest in January of this year. The contest challenges educators and those employed in the education field to create an activity for their classroom using only the LEGO bricks found in a LEGO Smart Kit.

To date we have had phenominal response from members in the education industry and have posted more than 100 activities developed by these contest participants. Recently, however, the contest news got out to large groups of ineligible people and many of them submitted requests for free LEGO Smart Kits.

In order to recieve a free LEGO Smart Kit via the LEGO Smart Creativity Contest, you must be a teacher or someone working within the education field (coach, administrator, teacher aide, and so on) and live within the United States.

To verify the credentials of those who have recently submitted requests, we are asking everyone to complete this new online form.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and honesty. A limited quantity of LEGO Smart Kits remain, and we appreciate your assistance in making sure these kits arrive in the hands of eligible contestants.

Goob, thanks for the link, I will be sharing it with other homeschooling parents, with proper hat tip, of course. I had no idea Lego even had educational products geared especially for homeschoolers until I followed your link. I also ordered a couple of their teaching resource catalogs. They should give you a kickback, dude! ;)

The freebie is definitely only for educators, and lying is not ok. I signed my mother, who is a teacher, up to receive one so that she can decide about the contest (which her kids should really like). The idea here is simple, and I don't think it is right to game the system when the freebie has clearly stated terms.

Out of curiosity, how many of you all give your real phone number? Not a phone you can (and do) turn off, but a 24/7 phone number so that the freebie business can call you? If they require a phone number to process the request, do you skip that freebie, even if it is something you'd use/give to somebody who will use it?

Just for the record, I initially interpreted this freebie as being available to anybody while the "Smart Creativity Contest" was for teachers only. I can see the argument that the kit as well is intended for teachers only, especially after looking at the link Kimberly provided.

I am a little frustrated that this freebie doesn't have an option for homeschool teachers. I homeschool my children so I am a teacher but I am not employed as a teacher. And I agree, lying to receive something free is not okay. So I won't be ordering this freebie but I may send an e-mail to the appropriate source reminding them that homeschool moms are teachers too even if they only have a few students.

Brittan, again, that's not the point - if the freebie (whatever it is) is for everyone, go ahead and get it if you want to try something new. BUT - if you have to lie to get it, that' where I draw the line.

http://www.legoeducation.com/forms/activitycontest.asp

This is the page that actually leads to the LEGO kit offer. I agree with Ingrid in the fact that not every freebie is for everyone. The contest and kit are meant to inspire creativity in the classroom, and give educators a chance at some prize money, while promoting their product as an educational item.

Basically, if you want toys for your desk, get a Happy Meal at lunch. That's what I do. :-)

So are the free food offers only valid for those that are hungry, or can we not use them for our family and friends? The free hats only good for those that like head protection from the sun? No, I didn't think so. To each their own, but I don't think there's anything wrong with a mom getting free legos for her kids.
