I applaud mv for having the guts to admit a mistake. I also applaud the HRC for their work in supporting marginalized communities like the GLBT section of society. I feel that we all could do better at working towards more equal social justice of groups who are not in the mainstream society of acceptance.

LGBT rights are not a controversial issue due to any predjudice on our parts. People are what they are, and the only thing making it “controversial” are the ignorant, close-minded ones who have something to say about it.

Amy, would you like to do me a favor and specify what you meant by “they’ll get a clue at the end?”

kendra – Yes, really. HRC’s stated purpose and the definition of propaganda match very nicely:

From HRC’s “About us” section,
“HRC seeks to improve the lives of LGBT Americans… by lobbying elected officials, mobilizing grassroots supporters, educating Americans, investing strategically to elect fair-minded officials and partnering with other LGBT organizations.”

From Merriam Webster online,
propaganda: (2) the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person.

So yes, I continue to consider HRC an LGBT propaganda site.

However, I don’t believe that gays *chose* to feel attracted to members of the same sex (kendra) or that blacks should be sitting at the back of the bus (Becky). Those statements reveal some startling assumptions and prejudices… I hope you realize that in calling people who do not support homosexuality “narrow,” you are espousing a very narrow viewpoint yourself (i.e., “supporting homosexuality is the ONLY correct viewpoint”). So in reality, everyone is narrow.

I was also surprised to see the link, but not upset. HRC is a human rights group – not a propaganda group. They work diligently to try to secure basic rights for the LGBT population that all other Americans can receive. Imagine not being able to see your spouse in the hospital when they are on their deathbed after a fatal accident because you forgot to carry your marriage license with you. This and worse happens to LBGT people everyday. I have many LGBT friends that live in fear everyday simply because they don’t have the same rights as the rest of America. You could have viewed the website, decided it wasn’t for you like I’m sure you do with other freebies, yet you had to come complain because you don’t agree. I don’t see why you had to look around the website because the page the link takes you to says “WORKING FOR LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL AND TRANSGENDER EQUAL RIGHTS” right at the top. Thanks Goob, I didn’t need the bumper sticker but appreciate the link.

Yeah, once I started looking around on the website, it became obvious that it really isn’t a human rights group but an LGBT propaganda group. Very disappointing. I’ll pass on the sticker.
