Free $1.29 From Amazon Plus Free & Cheap Music
To celebrate getting a million followers on Twitter (wow, HIF doesn’t even have nearly that many
), Amazon is giving away a $1.29 credit that can be used to download a free mp3 song. The credit will be applied to your account and most songs are only $0.99, so you can actually get a song and a third for free!
Amazon is also running an offer this month of 50 different albums for only $5. They have albums from bands like the Rolling Stones, Steely Dan, John Coltrane, The Roots, Willie Nelson, Gloriana, Marie Digby, Crystal Method, Fabolous and Shinedown. So…pretty much something for everybody. It might be worth checking out if you’re a music buff. Check out the banner below for more info.
And finally, as we’ve written about before, Amazon offers a hoard of free music available to anybody who wants it. The current count of freebies stands at 1,200, so never again shall you complain that you have nothing to listen to!

cool thanks!
This was the first time I have downloaded music from Amazon. Worked fine. It even recommended a few songs I liked. I didn’t see my 30-cent credit for buying a song that was less than 99 cents.
I noticed that among the categories you could click on “why” (as in, why they were offering these particular songs) and since I couldn’t relate to these choices of music (I am an old fogey) I clicked on “why”. It said it was because I had previously ordered “Energy”, which I never did. There was a place where I could click on “fix it”, so I clicked on it, and it still had the same list of choices, so I clicked on reload, and it had other offers, not in a list, but just the same, they were offers of the same type of music. Still the notice said the 1.29 is on my account. I guess I just need to go hunt down a 99 cent single that I like and see if I can buy it with the credit.
I was able to download a song from “Theory of a deadman” with my $1.29 credit & was able to find a free “Poison” song for free; I haven’t heard this song since I was a teenager! Great Freebie! Please keep us informed with any other free music; who doesn’t love free music?
i bought a song, but could not put it in i tunes.. i have a mac and the new snow leopard software downloaded.. does any one know how to do it.. says i have nothing to open the mp3 file with.. help!!
You shoul’ve included in your post that this offer is only good for mp3 players BOUGHT AT AMAZON!!! Makes a difference and wastes people’s time. Not trying to bew critical because I LOVE your site and you have tons of great info – just a heads up.
it wouldn’t let me buy the song with the code. Anyone else having this problem. It says that the song price, .99, exceeds the 1.29 limit.
I had no problems downloading anything from Amazon. My $1.29 went for Kings of Leon “Use Somebody” and then I downloaded a whole bunch of free stuff from the list. As soon as each download was complete, it automatically added the song to iTunes for me. And no, I didn’t buy my mp3 player at Amazon.
Sharon, you are completely wrong. They sell DRM-free mp3s, which play anywhere – on your computer, iPod,a nd *any* mp3 player, purchased anywhere. If you are confused about the amazon downloader, that’s just to automatically add your songs to iTunes, windows media player, whatever for you.
And the person confused about the song Energy (by The Apples in Stereo?), that is (or was) given as a free download when you installed the downloader just to help you test out the downloader. So you may have earlier and just forgotten.
What is the code?
