the powdered one doesn't have to be made with milk if I remember correctly, but i like to add some half and half so it's creamier

I guess you have to remember that is not an 'instant' mix... You have to mis it with HOT milk and wait for the tablets to dissolve while using a wooden whisk to make lots of foam....mmm.... childhood memories..... Anyway, I guess the powder is more convenient and you could use your blender to get the same result.....

If you have Giant Eagle stores then they carry this item. Look also in the aisle containing the foods of the world. Like Mexican, Chinese, English, etc.,

Dude... the website is SO vague when explaining what the heck the product is. I guess it's hot chocolate mix... not a hot chocolate tablet? Huh...?

My mom makes this every Christmas Eve and Christmas day morning. She desolves two tables with about 8 cups of milk and YUMMY it tastes so good. They are mostly sold in Mexican stores. It's chocolate, but with a different taste to it. It's so delicious.

I read the description and went ahead an ordered the sample. It sounds like a great chocolate drink, but I wonder if I will be able to find it in my area.

Abuelita means "little granny," which really is a term of affection so it means essentially "dear granny." As already noted, it is Mexican hot cocoa with cinnamon mixed in. It comes either in octagonal tablets that you break into triangles, or in powdered form. Hadn't seen the syrup - but that sounds like something they'd sell here.

There are other brands that are the same thing. Traditionally, you make this in milk (use whole) and froth it with a wooden tool. What I'd recommend is get your smallest saucepan and scald the milk, like you would with chai, then pour it over the chocolate mixing with a fork in the bottom of the mug as you do so.

Abuelita is a brand of Mexican hot chocolate, which means it has some cinnamon in it as well. You melt the tablets in milk just to scalding, it won't work with hot water. It's rich and delicious. It does come in a syrup form now, just like Nestle's, and is great on ice cream.

My brother, who is curretnly lives in oregon, got me a package for christmass. This is a very frothy, rich, different tasting drink. One tablet makes abot 3-4 cups, so you may want to share, or chill and serve latter.
