2009 Veterans Day Freebies

This coming Wednesday, November 11 is Veterans Day and since I’m far too much of a wuss to serve in the military, I thought the least I could do was put together a list of freebies available to active military members and veterans. Most (all?) of the offers below require nothing more than proof of military service in order to get the freebie.

Applebee’s – Applebee’s is offering free meals all day long! Well, the offer is all day long, I doubt they’ll let you actually eat meal after meal throughout the entire day. But heck, why not try?!

Golden Gorral – A ginormous video staring Gary Sinise pops up on this page, which makes perfect sense. When I think of Veterans Day and Golden Corral, I obviously complete the trifecta with thoughts of Gary Sinise. Anyway, GC is giving away a free military appreciation thank you dinner on Monday, Nov. 16 from 5-9pm.

Krispy Kreme – All veterans and active military personnel can get a free doughnut of any variety, including glazed, kreme filled, and chocolate cake. Whoa, whoa, whoa – chocolate cake doughnuts? Wouldn’t that simply be a slice of chocolate cake? Somebody at Krispy Kreme Laboratories needs to stop slacking off and come up with better ideas.

McCormick and Schmicks – They’re hosting a special dinner on Sunday, Nov. 8 and space is limited. There’s a reservation form at the bottom of their page, so RSVP today if you want to attend! Parties cannot be larger than 6 though.

*NEW* Outback Steakhouse – All veterans and active duty military get a free Bloomin’ Onion and beverage.

Sam’s Club – Over 25,000 Hugo canes will be given away free of charge to United States military veterans in need of mobility assistance. Sam’s Club membership is not required, but supplies are limited so you may want to call your local store before heading there.

Uno Chicago Grill – They’re offering a free entree or individual pizza with an entree or pizza purchase of equal or greater value. A BOGO isn’t the best offer on this list, but at least you can feed the entire family for half the price.

U.S. Department of Interior – All of the areas managed by the DOI is offering free admission to any and everyone on Veterans Day. This includes all national parks, forests, and monuments.

Those are all of the national freebies I could find for Veterans Day, however there are a ton of local offers available in a few dozen states. Military Avenue seems to have the best collection of them, so be sure to check them out! And by all means, if you know of a nationwide freebie I missed, please let us know about it in the comments!

    Sandy,

I just called the Texas Roadhouse here in Fayetteville, North Carolina, home to Fort Bragg and they are not offering anything to Veterans.

  3. #3 Sabrina |

Hy-Vee Grocery stores are offering free breakfast buffets to Veterans during normal breakfast hours.

Darn, and I was about to tell my husband we were going to Texas Roadhouse after he got off work on Wednesday.

Maybe they’re not doing it here at Bragg because they couldn’t handle all the people?

We’ll call them and give them a hard time about it.

I tried the Golden Corral deal about 3 years ago and told myself never again. The lines were incredibly long, the place was crowded and the amount of food couldn’t meet the demand. I retired in 1998 and because I don’t look old enough to have served in Viet Nam or Korea everyone from patrons to staff eyed me with suspiscion everytime they walked by my table. The idea is honorable and very much appreciated but they just cannot meet the demand. I think more people would take advantage of the offer if it was a vouch or coupon. I afraid Applebee’s will be just the same and I won’t even try.

FYI…In case anyone is near…The National Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY (with over 100 exhibits) is offering free admission to any Military with id…That is an $8.00 savings!

Just so you know, Gary Sinise has probably done more for veterans than anyone in the country, certainly more than the politicians have.

He just doesn’t boast about it. But veterans know he’s the real deal.

National Forests are managed by the US Department of Agriculture and though most don’t charge admission, they may not be covered by this freebie.

    Thank you veterans!

Thanks Lisha for posting it. I was going to let my co-workers know on Monday but after reading your post I guess I won’t. I am also surprised that they are not doing it here in Fayetteville.

  20. #20 Marty duh Marine |

This will be our fourth year in a row going to Golden Corral. True, the line is long and the wait is long, but being a former Marine, I understand the term “Hurry up and wait” all too well. The employees are gracious. The food is very good and they are pretty good at refilling any food that is gone. Besides, because of the amount of people coming through, the food is always freshly made and hot since they keep it coming to feed the troops and their family members. Thanks, Golden Corral! This Marine veteran appreciates what you do.

  21. #21 SGT_G |

Arby’s is not doing the free sandwich as the info suggests. The employee’s looked at me like i had to heads, they said they used to give a free sandwich every Wednesday but stopped. When i asked them if they where doing it cause it was veterans day they asked “why would they?” I told them they should take down there “we support the troops” sign cause they sure don’t

  22. #22 Jackson |

Home Depot and Lowes always has a 10% discount for vets here in MN, but Menards has stopped giving it. Also, Chili’s and Applebee’s is your best bet for food if the Texas Roadhouse isn’t close.

  23. #23 mary j hagofsky |

Stein Mart is offering a ten percent discount to those with a military ID card Wednesday and Thursday. If you don’t have a military ID Card but donate 5.00 to the wounded Warrior project, you will be eligible for the discount.

  24. #24 Firedogg |

Been checking around, but can’t find a TEXAS Roadhouse in TEXAS that offers this free meal to veterans! Go figure!

  25. #25 PROUD VETERAN |

Old Saying…….Freedoms not really FREE….well….at least the Food is TODAY.

;) BIG THANKS TO ALL THE RESTAURANT OWNERS FOR HONORING THOSE WHO HAVE HONORED THEIR COUNTRY FOR YOU;)

  26. #26 Viet Vet |

Firedogg, if you have a Logan’s Roadhouse near you they usually have a free dinner for Vets on “OUR” day. I would call fisrt to make sure but I truly think you will get an affirmative from them.

Welcome home to all my brothers in arms, and thank you to all those that are currently serving our great nation and preserving our freedom.
