2009 Fall Contest Winner, Part 1

Seeing as how the college football season is over (sure would be nice if they had a playoff system…), the first batch of winners for the 2009 Fall HIF Contest are in! To see how the final rankings stack up, meet me after the jump. And don’t forget, the current contest for four $25 Starbucks giftcards ends soon!

Free Redbox Rental Code

redbox-logo

I’m not sure how long this new Redbox rental code of GANTS9 will last, but heck if I’m going to test it out myself. It snowed like crazy this weekend and while all the roads are now clear, my driveway sure isn’t. I tried tossing buckets of hot water on it from my window, but I think I only made things worse. The only way I could have iced it over better would have been to rent a Zamboni.

If you’re new to Redbox, check out the Redbox Explanation Guide that covers all the basics of how to use the free rental codes as well as some personal tips & tricks I’ve discovered to help maximize your freebie movies.

Deal: $5 Magazine Subscriptions

EDIT: This sale is no longer available.

It turns out that Amazon’s $5 magazine subscriptions deal changes each week, so that means we’ve got some new (cheap!) magazines up for grabs. There are a few repeats from last week, but most are fresh and like before, they’re going anywhere from 80-90% off their normal price. You’ve got until December 12 before the prices go back to normal.

  • Cosmopolitan
  • Country Living
  • Esquire (probably my favorite magazine)
  • Good Housekeeping
  • Harper’s Bazaar
  • House Beautiful
  • Marie Claire
  • Popular Mechanics
  • Redbook
  • Seventeen
  • SmartMoney
  • Town & Country
  • Veranda

What’s the rule on buying something for a relative and then “accidentally” entering your own info on the signup form? My brother would enjoy Esquire, but my subscription is about to run out and… I’m sure everybody would buy the whole “silly Goob, he made another mistake!” story, but then there’s this post. I probably shouldn’t publish in detail my evil plans. Maybe that’s why the League of Evil won’t accept me into their alliance!

In-Store Freebie Events for 12/5

Pro: there are four good in-store freebie events this weekend. Con: attending any of them will require getting dressed.

The free Home Depot kids workshop is going on from 9am-noon this Saturday and it looks like they’ll be building a wagon. Sweet! Now my siblings won’t be able to say “but I can’t carry it all!” when I tell them to go get the mail.

If you happen to oversleep a little, then perhaps you could instead go to the free Lowe’s Build & Grow Clinic that runs from 10am-noon. They’ll be building a gingerbread house, but something tells me you won’t be able to eat it unless you’re a beaver. Be sure to register today if you want to attend tomorrow!

After straining your hands with power tools, head on over to your nearest Estee Lauder counter between 10am-8pm and get a free lip gloss as well as a two-minute hand massage! Hopefully my silver tongue will get me a few extra minutes of massage time. Or maybe I’ll get throw out by security for hassling the employees. Either way, the day will be interesting!

And finally, after pampering up a little, swing by Walmart on either Saturday or Sunday to get a free photo with Santa between 10am-2pm. Your children will treasure the photos once they’ve grown up – nothing brings back memories like looking at myself crying while on a stranger’s lap!

EDIT: Hiffers Andrea and Misty tipped me off that Michaels is also holding a free Santa’s Workshop on Saturday from 10am-1pm.

Coupon: Free International Delight Creamer

EDIT: And they’re all gone now!

Only the first 25,000 Facebook fans will get a coupon for a free 16 oz. pint of International Delight creamer, so stop reading this and go quickly. They’ve currently got 4,000 members, but who knows how many there are now!

Back so soon? Cool, now we can both enjoy some free coffee creamer this weekend! Unless, uh, you were too late. In that case, I’m sorry for getting your hopes up. But hey, you were the one asleep in the middle of the night! What’s up with that? Are you telling me I’m the only person who sees 2 am as prime freebie hunting time?

Free Tide Swash from Vocalpoint

tide-swash

EDIT: Looks like this offer has ended. You can still sign up for Vocalpoint, however, and get sample/freebie offers from time to time.

I’ve never used Vocalpoint before, but if you sign up for a free account and then join their Facebook page, you’ll get a free sample of Tide Swash. It doesn’t look like I’ll get the freebie though, because VP wouldn’t let me join. Apparently I’m two ovaries short of the required amount.

Hey, guys buy things too! And we tell our friends about them! I could go on a nice, long rant about the number of “women only” websites out there, but instead I’ll go drink some whiskey. I find it to be more productive.

Free 3M Pistonz Ear Plugs

EDIT: The company contacted me and requested that I take this offer down.

3M officially wears the crown for giving out the oddest freebies. To me 3M = paper supplies, so I was a bit perplexed to see them giving away free ear plugs in the shape of pistons.

They even gave away free dog food a few months ago! Was it made from old post-it notes? I half expected it to stick to the roof of my dog’s mouth, kinda like peanut butter. It was quite a let down when she ate it normally and then went straight to napping on the couch.

Free Orange Benefiber

benefiber_logo

Walmart is offering free orange Benefiber and…hmm, that sounds odd. It’s orange flavored. The way I worded it made it sound radioactive. I mean, I can’t be positive it’s not radioactive, but let me try again.

Here’s a freebie that will almost certainly give you superpowers. Wait…dang it!

Free Excedrin Extra Strength

EDIT: Looks like this offer died shortly after I posted it. Sorry about that!

I’m officially jealous of Sam and not because he’s offering free Excedrin Extra Strength medicine. It’s because he has a club! I want a club. Goob’s Club. We probably wouldn’t sell stuff, but like any good club, there’d be lots of hanging out. And chilling. Unlimited drinks! Free buffalo wings!

Oh who am I kidding, my own club sounds too good to be true. There’s no way they’d let me join.

Free Pixar’s Up Soundtrack Download

pixar-up-blue-logo-cci-hdrimg

EDIT: Hey, they ended this a few hours too early! What’s the big idea?

Apparently there are these ancient relics published on a daily basis called nerspeppers – am I saying that right? Nooselabors? Nudeslayers? Oh, newspapers, gotcha – and one fine establishment in Los Angeles is offering a free download for Pixar’s Up soundtrack by using the code latimesdisney before midnight tonight. The entire download consists of 23 songs and runs just under 50 minutes of play time.

It’s not quite like watching the movie, but it’s the next best thing. Track number nine is even called “Kevin Beak’n.” Heh heh heh, oh my, I love a good pun. In fact, my favorite SQUIRREL!
