Freebies and free stuff

In yesterday’s Freebies I’ve Received post, I mentioned getting a Woman’s Day magazine. It just so happens that it contains a mention (page 16) that any deployed soldier can get a free 16×20 canvas photo to give to their mother for Mother’s Day. These suckers retail for $112 and are being run via Operation: Hi Mom!

I obviously won’t be able to participate in this freebie, as I get scared whenever a bee sneaks into my room, but this sounds like a great freebie. If you know anybody who is deployed, pass it on!

I bet this free Golf Week magazine subscription is going faster than it might have in times past thanks to the moronic Tiger Woods coverage every news station is running. It’s a sad truth, but sex sells. Why else do you think I work on HIF while wearing a thong?

Copenhagen has updated their site and you can now get a free thermal flask, camouflage hat, or coupon book. I went with the flask, although this really isn’t a flask in my view. It’s more a thermos. If I can’t hide it in my coat pocket and sneak it into a movie, doctor’s office, or baby shower, then it losses its flask privileges.

Also, let me preemptively get this out of the way: no, I don’t endorse tobacco products. No, I don’t censor freebies. Yes, I know it’s a lot of personal information, but tobacco (and alcohol) companies are required to collect it by federal law so that minors aren’t on their sites.

I feel like a robot right about now. The world’s most boring, stodgy robot. Oh great, Japanese scientists just showed up wanting to replicate me!

My previous free Macworld magazine subscription recently expired, so this is some good timing. It’s like that time I was about to get beat up behind the bleachers in high school and then the gym coach showed up. How did he possibly know to appear there at that exact moment? It might have had something to do with me screeching like a little girl, but I prefer to believe it was destiny.

The next free Lowe’s Build & Grow Clinic is Saturday, April 10 and baseball! Baseball, baseball, baseball! Ah, baseball is back, and it’s glorious. Sure the Mariners are already displaying the variety of ways they know to lose games, but oh well.

People always want to know the key to happiness and it’s easy. Just follow a crappy sports team with undying dedication! It teaches two important life lessons: how to find the silver lining in anything and the best way to heckle an under-performing outfielder.

EDIT: Many Fuddruckers are refusing to honor this promotion. I apologize to anybody who tried to use it and was turned down!

Be sure to call your local joint to see if they’re participating, as the coupon says not all are.

I’d like to know the reasoning behind why a place wouldn’t participate in a promotion. There should be a test for all would-be franchise owners. (1) Are you going to uphold our brand’s image? (2) Are you going to accept all of our darn coupons? Answer both to yes questions and boom, you get a deep fryer and ice cream machine.

What I’m saying is I want an ice cream machine. Fuddruckers, I await your call.

And remember, this is a single 8×10 photo, not 8×10=80 free photos. I actually had somebody send in an angry email about for not spelling that out the last time I posted one of these. What am I, a freaking riddle master? Yeah, I try to and obscurely post freebies. I guess instead of saying this is available at Walgreens, I should have said “those things between ceilings and floors that are painted the fourth color of the rainbow.”

Smartsource has a coupon for free Uncle Ben’s rice and boy am I gonna feel weird eating this freebie. I don’t even have an uncle Ben! If I found some guy eating food that I had intended to go to my niece or nephew, I’d be more than a little peeved.
