I worked in a pharmacy during college, and many blood sugar meters are free, especially the newer ones. What aren’t free, however, are the strips. Surprise, surprise, the most expensive strips go with the free meters. So just an FYI, the meter might look like a good deal on the outside, but make sure to discuss the price of the strips, especially if you don’t have insurance. If this is something you’ll be using for the rest of your life, the $30 meter with the $30/month box of strips is a lot better than the free meter with the $50-100/month box of strips.
