‘Random’ Freebies

Free Trollsen Twin Masks

EDIT: I received an e-mail stating they were out of masks, so I wouldn’t suggest anybody else sign up for this.

PETA usually has a lot of annoying mailings that they send out, but finally they’re providing a fairly decent freebee, I’d say. Just sign up for this free Trollsen Twin mask set and your halloween costume is taken care of!

And if you’re still feeling in the festive mood, over on the forums these great pumpkin carving patterns.

Of course, before you know it, we’ll be seeing more and more Christmas freebees…

Free Bob Barr ‘08 Sticker

We’ve posted Obama and McCain freebies in the past, so how about some free Libertarian and Bob Barr ‘08 stickers? You’ll also get a free tri-fold as well, which I initially thought was a wallet. Then I got confused, because why would somebody want to give away a freebie that typically spends most of its life hidden away in somebody’s pocket? A quick Google search revealed that I’m an idiot and that a tri-fold is a brochure.

For those of you keeping score at home, it’s now Goob: 4 - Common Sense: 9 bazillion.

Free Scented Bookmark

Finally! A free scented bookmark! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been reading a good book and suddenly thought to myself “you know, I really could go for a good sniff of something right now.”

I went with Mocha Silk simply because that was the only smell I recognized. What in the world does Wisteria smell like? And Original what? When’s the last time anybody’s ever said “yeah, that smells like Original.”?

Free “Hot Mom Driving” Magnet

Wait, there’s a show called Hottest Mom In America? And they’re giving away free “hot mom driving” car magnets? Must. Suppress. Inappropriate. Jokes.

Instead, how about we all sign up our mom’s for this freebie. I know my mom will get a kick out of some company sending her a hot mom magnet. What’s better than free stuff AND a few extra brownie points with mom, huh?

Free BFF Wristbands

My best friend from high school before joining the Navy gave me one of the best possible nicknames ever. Just like how Goob’s real name isn’t Goob but so many folks know him like that, so many folks know me as Zeke and not as Adam, just because of my BFF Dave.

So its only accordingly that I find this free BFF wristband offer. I mean, that’s what BFFs are there for: stupid nicknames and stupider stories to go with them…

Now to see if I can find Dave’s address for when this one comes, or to see if I can make a new BFF… Any takers?

Free Environmental Tote Bag

When I lived in Australia, they used these free environmental tote bags everywhere. It was one of the many cool small changes that I thought we should adopt (get rid of the stupid penny!) and now I’m pleased to see that they’re catching on. I’m not a huge eco-nut that uses recycled toilet paper, but at the same time I’m kind of tired seeing people triple bag a loaf of bread at the supermarket!

Free reusable tote, travel mug, or umbrella from EDF

The Environmental Defense Fund is stepping up and getting all political, and we’re reaping the rewards on this one, even in Canada (and possibly in other countries too? Maybe you can try it if you’re somewhere like Australia or Zimbabwe?)… See, they want us to send a letter to the new president for action on the environment in his first 100 days. And we still haven’t even gotten to the election!

But the bright side of this one is when you send the letter, you can decide for a free reusable tote, travel mug, or umbrella from EDF, just for clicking send on their form letter. Makes everything a lot easier, I’d say… Makes you actually feel like getting involved… Or maybe going back to sleep…

Free Museum Day

I promise I’ll start posting these a few days in advance, but if you’re bored today and live near a participating museum, you can get in for free. You can print your free card here and the fine print says each card allows entry for two people. Additional rules:

  • One time use on Saturday, September 27, 2008.
  • Card must be presented for free general admission. Admission Card will be collected upon entry.
  • General admission only. Does not include entry to special exhibits or IMAX screenings.
  • Admission Card is good for general admission for you plus one guest.
  • One Admission Card per household.
  • Not for use with any other offer.
  • No rain checks.
  • Some participating museums may already have a free admission policy year round and are participating in the “spirit” of the day.

So go! Venture out and soak in the free knowledge, culture, and enlightenment! Let me know how it goes too, because there’s no way I’m driving into D.C. today. It’s cold, rainy, and I’m still in my boxers.

Free Keep The Net Free Stickers

I’m loving how other sites are helping to bridge the gap between now and when I get more HIF stickers. First it was the One Vote sticker and now it’s these free Keep the Net Free stickers. My personal favorite is the third one with the guy shaking his fist at an unforeseen enemy. Fist shaking is a dieing art form and highly underrated. Such a wide array of emotions can be displayed with a fist shake, from anger to detest to “I really want to punch you with this first right here.”

Free One Person, One Vote Sticker

Seeing as how the next batch of HIF stickers are taking forever to arrive, how about you get this free One Person, One Vote bumper sticker to tide you over?

I’ll clarify that I have no idea what their political views or affiliations are though. For all I know, this is just a front for the American Robot Party, a shadowy organization who wants to put a robot in the White House. This cannot happen, people. Just think, one small line of code and he could be programmed to start a nuclear war. You can fight the good fight though and help drain their resources by requesting the free sticker!

Yeah, I really don’t know what I’m talking about. I probably shouldn’t start drinking at 9 in the morning.

Free Guitar Strings from LaBella

I feel like I’m always behind at doing things. No joke. And when it comes to changing my guitar’s strings? I’m horrible at that. I’ll leave on a pair for a year or so, and especially on my 12-string. I haven’t changed that sucker in probably 2 years.

But now with these free strings from LaBella, I can finally change my Takamine’s strings again! Of course, that’s until I have to wait another 4 to 6 months to scrounge up enough spare quarters that aren’t going into the laundry machine to buy another pair.

Unless enough HIF-ers want to request acoustic guitar strings in size 12 or 13… ;)

EDIT: And speaking of new strings, of course my guitar must have read this post because for the first time playing it in about a month? I break a string… Let’s hope that these suckers come fast…

Free Fodor’s 1,001 Smart Travel Tips

DHL is giving away a free copy of Fodor’s 1,001 Smart Travel Tips if you pretend to be a company and take their survey. I’m curious to see how many of these 1,001 so called tips are actually just common sense though. If I wrote a similar book, it’d say 1) Learn to say please, thank you, beer, no, and yes in the local language and 2) Pretend to be Canadian. That’s pretty much all you need to do in order to get by abroad.

You know, I think I’m starting to understand why I don’t have a book deal.

Free Obama / Biden Sticker

I’m sure when McCain announces his running mate, we’ll get some stickers for him up as well. But for now, here are some free Obama / Biden stickers. The good thing about this freebie is you know it’ll come relatively soon. There’s no point in them sending these out come December, right?

As a matter of fact, did anybody sign up for the free Obama button offer or the free McCain bumper sticker offer that Adam posted last month? If so, did anybody get it yet?

Free New Yorker Bookmark

How is it that every bookstore and library have stacks of free bookmarks for the taking and yet every time I put down a book at night, I can’t find one in my room. Every time! Maybe this free New Yorker bookmark will last a while, but who are we kidding. I’m going to lose this thing somewhere in between getting it from the mailbox and walking in my front door.

Free Save Polar Bears Stickers

For anybody who has requested some free HIF stickers recently, check out these free polar bear stickers to tide you over in the meantime. You have to send an e-mail to them in order to request the freebie, but seeing as how most of us send a million e-mails daily, that shouldn’t be much of a problem.
