‘School’ Freebies

Free Pocket Constitution

The Heritage Foundation is giving away free pocket constitutions in bulk, which would make a great addition to any classroom, or simply to any individual who wants one. I actually already have one on my desk and I use it quite frequently for reference. I’ve been burned too many times by Wikipedia to trust it anymore. Did you know there ISN’T a 28th Amendment that guarantees a $1 million annual payment by the federal government to anybody named Goob? I was quite disappointed to find out this wasn’t true, despite it clearly being listed on the page. I’m telling ya, they really shouldn’t let just anybody edit that thing.

Free Eraser Set

Is it just me or do pencil erasers suck now? They’re always those semi-plastic kind that are obviously cheaper then the old-school erasers that actually…um…oh yeah, ERASED LEAD! Try and erase something now and all that happens is the lead will just smear around on the page. Soon you’ve got 10 lines of text and 15 homemade Rorschach tests scattered amongst them. Let’s hope this free erasers set are a throwback to the days of yore when erasers actually erased things. (note: once you submit the form for the erasers, a new page to Eversave.com will load. Don’t worry about filling any of that crap out, just close it.)

Free Recycled Post-It Notes

EDIT: Looks like they need to recycle some more freebies for us!

I can’t remember the last time I bought office supplies, thanks to freebies like these free recycled post-it notes. My desk is littered with stationary with random company logos, pens tattooed in a variety of 800 numbers and a glittering array of wrappers that once contained all the free snacks I’ve received.

I’m running out of room for these post-it notes though. I already have a good 100 or so on my wall and desk, many of which read “GOOB! Go through all these darn post-its!” My parents must be proud, I don’t even listen to myself.

Free 12-Color Oil Pastel Set

EDIT: I’ve got a sinking feeling this one’s dead!

I felt bad not posting anything yesterday, as Monday is when I usually try to get the most fresh freebies up here. The problem was there wasn’t anything worth posting! So thank the Freebie Gods for this free 12-color oil pastel set, which looks freaking awesome! I just signed my little sister up for these and will probably demand that she use it to paint me a few pictures I can hang on my wall. It’ll be like a double freebie for me then!

Oh, you’ll need the promo code as well. It’s SA2008.

Free State of the States Publication

In high school, I was a history and geography buff. Well, more of the history buff. I loved studying the trends and the facts related to it. Little obscure things like Appomattox Courthouse, FDR’s New Deal, and the Bay of Pigs (which means I know more than Dana Perino). In knowing all of these random facts, I was killer on my high school’s academic team. Yeah, I was one of those nerds too. But, it got our high school a county-wide win over the other two, two years in a row, and it got me a place my senior year to go to Disney and the Florida Academic Team Showdowns. Yeah, we sucked horribly and got eliminated after two rounds, but we had a free trip to Disney! Can’t complain about that.

I do think that something like this free State of the States Publication PDF would have helped out a lot. See, if you read past years publications, you can see how chock full of facts they are about the changing trends in America. Heck, save 20 to 30 years worth of these and you can have your own kids made into academic geniuses.

They do come in magazines as well, but our dear own Pru found out that the supply is already gone of those, so request 2009’s early, and you won’t be downloading and printing your PDFs at Kinkos this year…

Free Earth Poster

EDIT: Looks like they’ve stopped giving away the free posters.

This free “It’s Cool To Care” Earth poster would be great for any classroom or kid’s room. When I was a kid, my walls were decked out in posters of my favorite sports players. Ok, so maybe there was a poster or two of My Little Pony. And in the corner, there was that one of the Cabbage Patch Kids. But I swear, those weren’t mine! I was, uh, you know, holding them for my sister. So what if she wasn’t even born at the time, I knew she’d be around eventually. Ok, fine, I admit, they were mine. But I just liked the colors, that’s all!

Free Spiderman Comic Book

EDIT: This is no longer available.

Today, I feel like I wish I was a kid all over again. I had a craving for some flannel, I turned on some Foo Fighters, and if I didn’t have a test today, I’d make myself chocolate chip pancakes and watch cartoons all day. That, or the cheesy $1 DVD that I found at Wal*Mart with four “classic” sci-fi films on it. Alas, I can’t even watch the episodes of Torchwood that I have saved up on my DVR because of that test.

But, I can still pretend to be a kid and call up the American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345 and request a free Spiderman vs. SmokeScreen comic book. Heck, we all can now that I’ve posted this number, and we can all spend a day sitting in, reading our comic books with Cheerios in our chocolate milk and cuddling up on the couch with comfy pillows.

Hmmmm… Cheerios. I think I’m going to have to get another bowl of cereal…

Free Copy of Digital Frog 2 Dissection Software

When I was in high school, I waited for the day that my teacher would bring out the frogs. I just waited and waited, and it never happened. My biology teacher was a cool guy. He also taugh anatomy and physiology, so I knew he knew how, and we were the honors class. Heck, my teacher even had a pony tail and the cool classroom demeanor. He could have been the Fonz or something.

But when we walked into the room near the end of the year, we smelled something sort of funny. After asking him what it was, he told us that it was the preservative that they were keeping the cats in for his anatomy class. Cats? Later that week, we saw the heavy duty aluminum foil surroundings around them when he set them out in the room for them, and I think we heard some of his students naming them.

Thankfully it wasn’t our scapel in hand with Fluffy and Mr. Meow, and it makes me wonder what they would have done if they had this free copy of Digital Frog 2 dissection software. Instead of taking a formaldehyde soaked feline, he could have set up a few laptops and let people have less of a clean-up in the end.

Of course, there was also that smell from down the hall from the marine biology lab and whatever it was they were dicing too…

Free Pocket Folder Insert

EDIT: This is now dead.

I use to be a hidden nerd in school. I say “hidden” because I hung out with the group of kids who had a little bit of everybody in our group. A few band geeks, some drama people, a jock or two, you get the idea. And I was our token smart guy masquerading as a normal dude. I kept my worrying about making B’s instead of A’s to myself and I didn’t like to let people know that I studied more than I probably should have. That said, had I found these free pocket folder insert back then, I would have gone crazy. “OHHHH, look! A way for me to somehow become even more anal retentive in my note keeping skills! Hooray!”

On a sidenote, I have a feeling I’ve already shared this little anecdote with y’all. After posting 1,090 freebies so far, it’s hard to keep track of what stories I’ve already told :)

Free Post-it Sampler Pack

EDIT: Dead now :(

If I were to make a Freebie Hall of Fame for companies that are awesome at giving out free stuff, 3M would be the first inductee. Seriously, it’s as if they have a Freebie Department whose employees just sit around all day thinking of new products to send to us. And you guessed it, they’re at it again, this this with a free Post-it sampler pack. You’ll get some free post-it notes, a free highlighter pen, some free flash cards, and more.

Free Post-It Notes and Flags

EDIT: This is no longer available.

3M continue to secretly offer these free Post-It Notes and Flags. Every few weeks, they seem to change the web address, yet I’m onto them! You can’t fool me! In fact, that’s the buzz around town says about me; that I’m unfoolable. And yes, unfoolable is a word, for the buzz also says I make up new and awesome words all the time. As you can see, my town is full of buzz. It can be hard to get to sleep at night with all that buzzing going on around you. Where was I again? Oh yeah, freebies.

Free Environmental Educational Material

Whenever I see free environmental educational materials, I have to think back to how it was growing up with Suannee River songbooks, gators telling me that I need to turn off my faucets, and little water drops telling me about their life cycle that my dad brought home from work.

And these brocures look to be just as fun. Seriously! I mean, learning’s cool, and these make it even cooler. Especially The Adventures of the Garbage Gremlin… Who doesn’t love a Gremlin that doesn’t explode! Oh wait, he’s a bad guy…

Free Qolf Ball

EDIT: We got a dead one on our hands here, folks!

I love baseball. LOVE IT! God, I can’t wait for April! The pros start, spring arrives, intramural teams everywhere start calling the house, fantasy baseball drafts are held!! Go Mariners!!!!!!!

Oh, sorry. Like I was saying, I’m a baseball fan addict. In fact, I carry around a baseball with me most places and toss it to myself whenever I feel restless. But sometimes I have to find a substitute. Like a tennis ball or a softball or even a gold ball. So why not a free Qolf ball? Don’t ask me what a Qolf ball is, because I have no idea, but it looks cool and my right hand totally wants to start throwing it to his counterpart to the left.

Free Presidental $1 Coin Material

EDIT: Offer Is Dead

This free President $1 coin material would be pretty nice for any coin collectors out there or maybe teachers wanting to use it as educational material, etc. After seeing this, as well as the freebies the USPS and other governmental agencies send out, I realize how much free stuff you can get from Uncle Sam alone! There’s brochures, posters, stickers, and more that you can get.

Free Numb3rs Math Kit

EDIT: This is no longer available.

This free Numb3rs math kit is for teachers only, but it looks kinda cool. It looks like they’ll custom tailor the kit to fit your needs (ie, what grade you teacher, what equipment you have, etc.) It’s sponsored by Texas Instruments, the makers of those high end calculators that we all used back in high school. Well, I never actually used them, as I hated math with a passion, but I did have one of the calculator cases, which was the perfect size for a Gameboy color and a few games. I used to carry it around with me and play Pokemon all throughout my Calculus and Physics classes. All my friends used to laugh at me, but I had the last laugh as I won the Southeastern tournament held by Nintendo! Sadly, Nationals didn’t go so well. :(

Yeah, I guess you could say I’m pretty much a huge nerd :)
