There are a few rules I want everybody to follow in order to better their Freebie Hunting experience. That said, I also understand if you accidentally break a few rules from time to time. That's fine, especially if you're new to the forums and trying to learn the ropes. I don't want anybody to think they'll be banned simply because they messed up a few times. We're all human. So relax, read over these rules, and you'll have an awesome time here!
GLOBAL RULES
- Keep it civil! We're all adults here, so let's make sure we act like it. (And if you're not an adult yet, just lie and pretend!)
- Don't make pointless posts or replies, such as only posting "LOL!" or "THANKS.". If you want to thank somebody for posting a freebie, then by all means please do. Just make sure it's a little more substantial than a one word reply.
- NO REFERRAL CODES! Even if you find a true freebie service that has referral links (like Swagbucks), we still don't allow the referral codes. This is grounds for immediate warning and banning.
FREEBIES
- When posting a freebie, type whatever the freebie is into the Topic Title. I don't want to see titles like "GREAT FREEBIE!!!" but instead ones such as "Free Green T-Shirt" or "Free Crest Toothpaste Sample."
- Be sure to supply a direct link to the freebie in your post!
- If while posting a freebie you receive a warning Existing Links Found message, then please do not continue to post it! This means your freebies has already been posted here on HIF.
- Please specifically label the freebie in the title if there's anything you have to do beyond filling out a form. If it's a download, make sure you specify that. The same goes if you have to call in, e-mail somebody, live in a certain location, have a certain job, or send in a self addressed envelope! So, your topics should look something like "Free Calendars (Download)" or "Free Kitchen Magnets (Call In)" or "Free Books (Teachers)" or "Free Soap (Business)."
- If a freebie is found to be dead, please report it. Within a few hours, we will then move the post to The Graveyard, where all dead freebies and offers go to live out their final days.
SERVICES / PROGRAMS
Essentially, On-line services are freebies that you can't hold or use in the real world. So, a website that spoofs caller IDs or that hosts free file storage would go here in the S / P section. But a website that let's you order or print out or download something to print out still goes in the regular freebies.
For instance:
- You find a website that offers free on-line calendars that can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection. The calendars are hosted on-line and can be edited from your computer. This would be posted here in the S / P.
- You find a website that lets you download blank calendars to print out and use in your home. This is a physical freebie that you can hold in your hand, thus it would not be posted here in the S / P, but instead go in the regular freebies section.
- You find a website where you can download a calender creating program. This program stays on your computer and, you guessed it, makes unique calendars for you. Since you cannot hold this freebie download in your hand, it would be posted here in the S / P. Even if you can use the program to print out physical calendars, this is a byproduct of the initial freebie, which was the downloaded software.
- If the freebie is in any way, shape, or form a coupon, then it goes in the Coupons section. Even if the coupon is for a printable piece of paper for a 100% discount, it's still a coupon if I have to take it into a store in order to get the freebie.
- In each topic title, list how much $$ or % each coupon is worth. If it's for something free, then list 100%. Also, list the company / product that is coupon is for. Thus, each title should look like "25% off Applebee's Dinner" or $5 off Starbucks."
- If an expiration date is on the coupon, please put the date in the Topic Title.
- Contests are pretty easy to spot. If you have to enter into something for a drawing or such, then it's a contest. This is pretty much common sense.
- Please put the expiration date in the Topic Title.
- Any deal where you have to pay money should go into this section. Otherwise, it should fit into one of the other categories.
- The Topic Title should say what the deal is for and how much the user will end up paying. If rebates are involved, please make a note of it both in the title (by placing (REBATE) in the title)) and post. Thus, topics should look like "256MB Flash Card ($2.99)" or "Free Nintendo Video Game (REBATE)"
- If you can provide a direct link to the rebate form, please post it. However, this is only highly encouraged, not required.
- If the deal is only valid for a certain number of days or has an expiration date, please list them in the Topic Description.
