Welcome to Hey, It's The Forums!

There are a few rules I want everybody to follow in order to better their Freebie Hunting experience. That said, I also understand if you accidentally break a few rules from time to time. That's fine, especially if you're new to the forums and trying to learn the ropes. I don't want anybody to think they'll be banned simply because they messed up a few times. We're all human. So relax, read over these rules, and you'll have an awesome time here!

GLOBAL RULES
  • Keep it civil! We're all adults here, so let's make sure we act like it. (And if you're not an adult yet, just lie and pretend!)
  • Don't make pointless posts or replies, such as only posting "LOL!" or "THANKS.". If you want to thank somebody for posting a freebie, then by all means please do. Just make sure it's a little more substantial than a one word reply.
  • NO REFERRAL CODES! Even if you find a true freebie service that has referral links (like Swagbucks), we still don't allow the referral codes. This is grounds for immediate warning and banning.

FREEBIES
  • When posting a freebie, type whatever the freebie is into the Topic Title. I don't want to see titles like "GREAT FREEBIE!!!" but instead ones such as "Free Green T-Shirt" or "Free Crest Toothpaste Sample."
  • Be sure to supply a direct link to the freebie in your post!
  • If while posting a freebie you receive a warning Existing Links Found message, then please do not continue to post it! This means your freebies has already been posted here on HIF.
  • Please specifically label the freebie in the title if there's anything you have to do beyond filling out a form. If it's a download, make sure you specify that. The same goes if you have to call in, e-mail somebody, live in a certain location, have a certain job, or send in a self addressed envelope! So, your topics should look something like "Free Calendars (Download)" or "Free Kitchen Magnets (Call In)" or "Free Books (Teachers)" or "Free Soap (Business)."
  • If a freebie is found to be dead, please report it. Within a few hours, we will then move the post to The Graveyard, where all dead freebies and offers go to live out their final days.

SERVICES / PROGRAMS
Essentially, On-line services are freebies that you can't hold or use in the real world. So, a website that spoofs caller IDs or that hosts free file storage would go here in the S / P section. But a website that let's you order or print out or download something to print out still goes in the regular freebies.

For instance:
  • You find a website that offers free on-line calendars that can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection. The calendars are hosted on-line and can be edited from your computer. This would be posted here in the S / P.
  • You find a website that lets you download blank calendars to print out and use in your home. This is a physical freebie that you can hold in your hand, thus it would not be posted here in the S / P, but instead go in the regular freebies section.
  • You find a website where you can download a calender creating program. This program stays on your computer and, you guessed it, makes unique calendars for you. Since you cannot hold this freebie download in your hand, it would be posted here in the S / P. Even if you can use the program to print out physical calendars, this is a byproduct of the initial freebie, which was the downloaded software.
COUPONS
  • If the freebie is in any way, shape, or form a coupon, then it goes in the Coupons section. Even if the coupon is for a printable piece of paper for a 100% discount, it's still a coupon if I have to take it into a store in order to get the freebie.
  • In each topic title, list how much $$ or % each coupon is worth. If it's for something free, then list 100%. Also, list the company / product that is coupon is for. Thus, each title should look like "25% off Applebee's Dinner" or $5 off Starbucks."
  • If an expiration date is on the coupon, please put the date in the Topic Title.
CONTESTS
  • Contests are pretty easy to spot. If you have to enter into something for a drawing or such, then it's a contest. This is pretty much common sense.
  • Please put the expiration date in the Topic Title.
HOT DEALS
  • Any deal where you have to pay money should go into this section. Otherwise, it should fit into one of the other categories.
  • The Topic Title should say what the deal is for and how much the user will end up paying. If rebates are involved, please make a note of it both in the title (by placing (REBATE) in the title)) and post. Thus, topics should look like "256MB Flash Card ($2.99)" or "Free Nintendo Video Game (REBATE)"
  • If you can provide a direct link to the rebate form, please post it. However, this is only highly encouraged, not required.
  • If the deal is only valid for a certain number of days or has an expiration date, please list them in the Topic Description.
There you have it folks. I'll be sure to let everybody know of any major rule changes from here on out. So with that, take off and start posting!

I guess my main question is, if no pointless posts or replies, you basically mean up in the main section outside of "The Pub"? I'm sort of seeing "The Pub" as the random section for whomever wants to hang out, but I want to make sure before I just act like my usual ass-like self and spam that senselessly with news stories and funny things from here and there... :P

And I'm all up for the drink part. As I saw from the one time you posted your facebook page, you're not too far away from me. Only a few states, but it's not a bad drive...

Good point. The Pub will be a bit more open and free, with pointless replies being totally tolerated...especially if you're drinking while posting! :)

I was actually down in Florida a few weeks ago. I was in Tampa though, so not quite Orlando, but still closer than I am now.

Let's hope this forum gets big! Because the bigger it is, the more people we get, and the more people there are, the more freebies we get! And then soon we wont be able to move in our houses!

A new rule has been added to the Freebies section. It's:

[*] Do not reply to posts simply with the confirmation message you got when you signed up for the freebie. Posting these only help to clog up the forum with useless posts. The only exception to this is if you get something unexpected and want to see if others are getting the same message as well.

The "freebie" section rules have been updated. Some changes to note are numbers 3, 5, and 7.

Please follow the rules, folks :D

To note would be #3 with the "duplicate content" one... Best way to handle that is click on the original and leave a comment there asking if anyone got it, just to (1) bump it up and (2) check the validity of the offer. :)

People really need to start reporting dead posts too, I'm waaay too lazy to check a freebie every time that someone posts in it. :P

Just updated the rules a bit and put a link up in the header called "Rules" so that anybody can quickly access them no matter where they are on the site.
