National Pretzel Day Freebie

Free Pretzels on National Pretzel Day, April 26, 2024

I think we all remember reading about pretzel's invention by Italian monks in 610 AD. Trust me, it was big news.

But did you know April 26 is National Pretzel Day? You didn't? LIAR! Of course you did, I just told you. Geez, pay attention.

As in years past, a variety of stores are giving out free pretzels on Friday, April 26, 2024 with no purchase necessary!

Confirmed 2024 Free Pretzel Offers

  • Auntie Anne's – Free Original or Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel available to Pretzel Perks members. This is their free rewards program that will also trigger their annual free birthday pretzel! If you don't already have an account, now is the perfect time to register so that your free pretzel offer is waiting for you in your Pretzel Perks account. When joining, use promo code RYANE7068 to earn a free bonus reward.
  • Ben's Soft Pretzels – Make a minimum donation of $1, while in-store, to their partnered charity and receive a free original jumbo pretzel.
  • Philly Pretzel Factory – They're giving in-store customers a free pretzel, valued up to $1, with no purchase necessary. This was available from 7am-7pm on previous years and I expect that to be the same this year.
  • Pretzelmaker – When I asked if they're doing anything in 2024, Pretzelmaker told me “Could be 👀🥨❤️” which is Corporate Speak for “yes, but we haven't announced what the freebie is yet.” In previous years, they offered a free salted or unsalted pretzel.
  • Wetzel's Pretzels – Free Original Pretzel to all guests after 3pm.

Any Hiffers remember how Prezelmaker used to make people tell a joke in order to get this freebie? Glad to see they backed off my turf 🙂 Good times.

Previous Year's Offers

  • Sheetz – Open the app and look under “Offers” to find a deal for a free soft pretzel with any soft drink or coffee purchase.

Like usual, if you know of any I missed, please share in the comments.

Tax Day Freebies

2024 Tax Day Freebies and Deals

Ahh, glorious Income Tax Day is upon us with but a single day to spare. I've still yet to finish mine. I've only entered in my name and address on my 1040, but the status bar still reads as 0% complete. That's not too encouraging if you ask me. I might just end up filing for an extension this morning. Hooray Democracy! At least I'm a few steps ahead of Homer Simpson.

While I toil away at figuring out which of my plants count as dependents (hey, they couldn't live without me!), enjoy this list of 2024 Tax Day freebies and deals! I should note, you may see other frugal sites reporting additional freebies, but I didn't include those. Everything below are offers with hard evidence for them online.

Unless otherwise noted, these freebies are available on Monday, April 15, 2024 only.

2024 Tax Day Freebies

File Your Taxes – Before we get to the fun stuff, you've filed your taxes, right?! If you haven't, you can file your free federal tax return in minutes with Turbo Tax or H&R Block. I'd start with getting that done before scoring any freebies from below 😀

BJ's Brewhouse – Save $10 on any $40+ take-out or delivery order with promo code 10FOFF40.

Kona Ice – Stop by a Kona Ice truck during select hours for a free cup of tropical shaved ice.

Noodles & Company – $4.15 off any online order of $24+ for Rewards Members. Wow, in past years this used to be $4/10, so they've made the deal a bit worse IMHO.

Krispy Kreme – When you visit a shop on Monday, April 15, pay ONLY the sales tax on an Original Glazed® Dozen when you buy an Assorted or Original Glazed Dozen at regular price.

To make this deal even sweeter, when you order online, get the second Original Glazed Dozen completely free when you order an Assorted or Original Glazed Dozen at regular price! Just use promo code TAXBREAK when ordering online.

Free Comic Book Day

Free Comic Book Day on May 4, 2024

Mark your calendars! The 23rd annual Free Comic Book Day is slated for Saturday, May 4, 2024. We can get a free comic book that day at participating locations and this year they'll have even more freebies with color coded labels to distinguish between All Ages, Teen, and Mature comics.

So mark your calendar and pick up a free issue for the … kids at home? Suuuuuure, let's pretend it's not for you and say it's for the little ones.

It's been years since I've read comic books. I even tried drawing my own once. It didn't have many super heroes, but starred a kid who refused to eat his vegetables, couldn't talk to girls, and looked ridiculous in his baggy jeans. I guess it wasn't so much a comic book as a journal. No wonder Marvel never took me seriously.

To make matters worse, I harshly learned on a recent date that comic books aren't an appropriate answer to “what have I read lately?” Suffice to say, there wasn't a second date.

Freebies for Good Grades on Report Card

2024 Freebies for Good Report Card Grades

I was a nerdy, smart kid with my nose perpetually in a book and that trait carried over into adulthood. I'm the guy at the end of the bar more interested in reading my Kindle than socializing with strangers. Yet I've never been offered freebies based on how much I read or how smart I am! Oh, to be a kid again.

There are a lot of other websites with outdated information on freebies for good grades. I only included offers I could verify to some degree, but I strongly encourage you check with your own locations no matter what! Since these restaurants are usually franchises, offers heavily vary by location.

That said, here are all the places that give free stuff for good grades!

Good Grade Rewards

Allstate – Full-time students getting good grades qualify for their Smart Student Discount. They don't specify what constitutes “good grades,” nor do they say what the savings will be, so you'll need to ask your personal agent.

Amica – They have a form you can fill out requesting a good grade discount.

Chuck E. Cheese – Anybody can print their Super Student Award 🙂 It's a redeemable certificate for 10 free tokens per day, however a food purchase is required.

Farmer's Insurance – They have a “good student” promo where full-time students in high school or college under the age of 25 may qualify for a discount as long as they have good grades.

Financial Institutions – Hundreds of small banks, credit unions, and even insurance companies offer rewards for good grades as well! I highly suggest checking the website of any smaller institution you're with, as well as asking your local branch. I've seen some small banks offering up to $25 for good grades! Others offered smaller cash rewards, discounts, and other prizes.

I wish these offers had been around when I was a kid. I would have made some serious cash!

Geico – They offer a “good student discount” on insurance that's available when driving aged teens maintain a B average or better.

Jason's Deli – They replaced their old JDPickleCards offer with a new Kids Cash system. Kids under 12 got a free kid's meal at participating locations.

Liberty Mutual – You'll need a GPA of B or better in order to trigger their good student discount.

Nationwide – Students drivers aged 16 – 24 who maintain a B average qualify for a discount on auto insurance. Homeschooled students also qualify if they score in the top 20% of a test's national performance.

Pizza Hut – Pizza Hut used to have a site dedicated to this, but I believe it's since degraded to a “location specific” freebie. I'd definitely call ahead and ask! Hopefully they still recognize the great and classic Pizza Hut good grades deal. Seriously, I can remember getting this freebie in the late 80s!

Each marking period, any child who has 3 A's or the equivalent thereof, will receive one Personal Pan Pizza and a small soft drink or carton of milk by presenting his or her report card to the manager. This offer is good for Elementary and Middle School students. Dine-in only. Students must be present and the original report card must be presented.

Progressive – Save an additional 10% in most states just by maintaining a B average or better.

State Farm – Their “Good Student Discount” lets you save up to 25% if your teen driver gets good grades. These savings may last until your teen turns 25. Homeschoolers may also qualify with other options, such as submitting evidence they've taken certain national standardized tests administered within the past 12 months and ranked in the upper 20%.

Regional Good Grade Freebies

A lot of restaurants responded to my outreach by saying some sort of variation of “you'll need to check with your local location to see if they're participating and what they're offering.” This is a common situation for chains that operate franchises, since each location owner is free to set their own promotions.

  • Applebee's – While not quite nationwide, they confirmed on Twitter that it's up to your local restaurant as to whether or not they give out freebies for good grades. Many of the largest Applebee's franchises offer an “A is for Applebee's” reward program, where students 12 and under can get a free meal from the Kid's Menu if they receive an A on their report card.

Your best bet is searching for “A is for Applebee's” on Google and then adding your city or state. Many other freebie sites erroneously say this is a nationwide deal, but it's a great example of what kind of offer you can expect if your local franchise participates.
  • Baskin Robbins – They also confirmed on Twitter that giving away free scoops is “at the discretion of each franchise owner.” So call your local creamery!
  • Coldstone Creamery – They responded to my inquiry with “Hi, our stores are individually owned and operated. For special promotions and offers such as this, please reach out to your local store.” So it sounds like this might still be active on a regional basis.
  • Culver's – They said “Thanks for asking! Each restaurant is family owned and operated and they make decisions like this, so feel free to reach out to your local Culver's to see if they do anything”
  • IHOP – They said “Check your local restaurants for information on this!”
  • Krispy Kreme – Free original glazed donut for each A, up to a half-dozen. They said on Twitter that “It varies by location, check with your local shop!”
  • Marco's Pizza – Free one-topping pizza, but they said on Twitter “Thanks for reaching out. Because our stores are locally owned and operated, we suggest contacting your local Marco's Pizza directly.”
  • Sonic – They say “promotions vary by drive-in, we recommend contacting your local SONIC directly for the most up-to-date information. Thank you!”

That's a plot of potential free food for good grades!

Unconfirmed & Outdated Offers

Other sites report the following companies give freebies for good grades, but I've been unable to verify these claims on a nationwide basis. I've reached out to the following companies on Twitter, so please feel free to also message them and help get an answer 🙂

In the meantime, before trying to redeem any of these below, I'd make sure you call ahead first.

  • Bob Evans – As of 2019, the Star Student program “is not a program that is currently active at our restaurants.” A lot of other freebie sites say you can get a free scoop of ice cream with good grades from Bob Evans, but I can't find any confirmation on this.
  • Burger King – Free hamburger or ice cream cone for scoring 100% on a test. This sounds crazy regional, so I would contact your local BK to see if they're participating.
  • Cheryl's Cookies – Their Cookies for A's program is for K-8th grade students, but I can't find any information regarding this year.

A very popular program at Cheryl's is the Cheryl's Cookies for A's. Students present their report cards at retail locations and receive a free cookie per A, for up to 3 A's they have earned.

  • Chick-fil-A – Free 8 pack of nuggets if you have all A's and B's on a report card. They are one of the hardest companies to get a corporate response from, but I've once again reached out to them and will report back here if/when they respond.
  • McDonald's – K-5 grade students with straight A's get a free Happy Meal. 6-12 grade students get a free Value Meal.
  • Red Robin – Some sites claim students aged 10 and under get a free kids meal and students aged 11 and up get a free Monster Milkshake.
  • The Melting Pot – The Boca Raton, FL location used to offer a free three or four course meal for straight A's, but I'm not seeing any information for this year.
  • Wendy's – Other sites claim a report card with As and Bs will get a free dessert, but I see no official confirmation on this.

I'll keep this list updated as I find new offers, so if you find anything I missed, please let me know in the comments.

Kids Roller Skate Free

2024 Kids Roller Skate Free Program Update

Many Hiffers have taken advantage of the annual Kids Skate Free Club over the years. The good news is that it's coming back for 2024, but there was been a slight change to the program.

Instead of being 100% free, there is now a $4.99 membership cost that lasts for 12 months. So while there's a new cost, it's pretty small and nothing else has changed. Joining the membership will get you 2 Kids Skate Free passes per child, per week, all year long. These passes are only valid for one week and will automatically expire, but they're replaced with two new valid passes every Monday!

Once you locate a nearby rink, click their name to see dates, times, and age limits for their free skating. Register an account, then download the MyHownd app on your smartphone. This will be the app that lets you claim your kids free passes each week. Your first set of passes will be available in the MyHownd app on Monday morning following your free registration.

This program is good at a variety of locations in 36 states. Some locations have a $3-$4 skate rental fee, so be sure to check the website to see the details at your local rink. While the new change is not totally free, these passes don't expire until the end of the year, so you make your money back pretty fast.

Free Dairy Queen Ice Cream Cone

Free Dairy Queen Ice Cream Cone on March 19, 2024

Dairy Queen is holding their annual First Day of Spring freebie by giving away a free small vanilla cone on Tuesday, March 19, 2024!

Hiffers can swing by their local non-mall Dairy Queen and pick up a free cone all day long. Don't forget this is also the same day Rita's is giving away free Italian Ice.

Thankfully this freebie isn't like Chick-fil-A's annual dress like a cow day. We'd all look pretty silly with white traffic cones on our heads.

Free Krispy Kreme Halloween Doughnuts

Free Krispy Kreme Doughnut on Halloween

You can get a free Krispy Kreme doughnut on Tuesday, October 31 by wearing a costume. It doesn't even have to be a specific costume, so head over whether you're dressed as a mummy, Frankenstein, or professional businessperson in your normal everyday clothes. They'll never know!

You get to one free doughnut of choice with no purchase necessary.

Hundreds of free printable pumpkin carving templates and stencils

Over 1,000 Free Halloween Pumpkin Carving Patterns, Templates, and Stencils

I'm a tad late on getting this published, but I wanted to provide a list of free pumpkin carving stencils and templates. My sister could always free-carve the most gorgeous designs without any help. Then she'd turn around and look at whatever monstrosity I'd created and we'd laugh our tails off at how bad I was.

So if you're like me and need a little help carving your jack-o-lantern, then here are some great freebies for you!

All you have to do is print out a free design, place the sheet over your pumpkin, and carve away! It's like tracing for your gourds, which…kinda sounds way dirties than it actually is.

  • 60 Festive Designs from Better Homes & Gardens – They have designs ranging from cute to creepy along with templates for both novices and experts alike.
  • 12 Better Homes & Gardens Mythical Creatures – BHG also has a dozen mythical creature pumpkin stencils, such as zombies, werewolves, dragons, and vampires.
  • HGTV 100+ Beginner Stencils – HGTV has a ton of easy to use beginner templates for the kiddos, such as witches, cats, ghosts, bats, skeletons and zombies. Or if you’re looking for a cute, less menacing pumpkin design, carve a unicorn, owl, dog, dinosaur or a silly face.
  • HGTV 90+ Advanced stencils– If this isn't your first spooky craving rodeo, then you might want to have a look at their slightly more advanced pumpkin-carving stencils. Browse through a variety of designs from spooky to cool, such as ghosts, vampires, spiders, dragons, flowers, butterflies and even Dolly Parton.
  • Free Disney pumpkin carving patterns – Here's a search result of Disney patterns. Right now I'm seeing 26 patterns, like Ariel, Grogu, Olaf, Mickey Mouse, and more.
  • 100 Designs from Pumpkin Lady – I love the clean design of this site. In addition to the famous designs, she has some great more generalize ones like Autumn Leaves, goofy faces, different dog breeds, and much more.
  • Hundreds from Pumpkin Pile – They have a massive collection of pintables within the following groups: Traditional, Classic Jacks, Cartoons, Movies, Super Heroes, Sports, Video Games, Words, Celebrities, Vehicles, Animals, and Symbols.
  • 300 pumpkin patterns from Pumpkin Glow – Yet another huge collection of pintables. Scroll down to the bottom of the page in order to find pattern categories.
  • Free pumpkin patterns via Spook Masters – Last on the list is this older site. It's not as updated as the ones above, but one feature I like is that after clicking on a category at the top of the page, you'll get a full list of designs all on one page. So there's no constant clicking to the next page in order to find the best freebie for you.

If you find a design from the list above and use it to carve a pumpkin, I'd love to see the final result!

I have reached out to all the these companies and will update this post if any of them confirm that they're offering a freebie or deal this year.

Free Summer Events, Activities, Freebies for Kids

50+ Free Summer Kids Events, Activities, & Freebies!

With summer in full swing (woooo!), I thought it'd be a good idea to compiled a list of all the free kids summertime events & activities.

Check out some of these free events before summer 2023 ultimately ends (boooo!)

It's important to point out that while many of these are traditional freebies available each summer, you may encounter some offers are slowly rolling back out due to last year's shutdown. Therefore, I strongly suggest calling ahead and confirming your local establishment is participating in any of these.

Get freebies and discounts simply by reading books!

The free reading programs are always a big hit each year. Over 13 companies such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Chuck E. Cheese, Pottery Barn, and many more reward good behavior by offering freebies and prizes for reading. Most stores have a free reading companies guide or tracker that you can print at home, fill out as your child reads over the summer, then turn it in for freebies!

Kids bowl free every day all summer long!

In fact, they get two free games of bowling! All you have to do is register ahead of time.

“It's about that time for the return of the favorite kids bowl free all summer deal! Sign up and your children will get two free games of bowling every day this summer. That's valued at over $500.”

Don't forget kids skate free during the summer too.

Multiple locations in 36 states offer free kids roller skating passes. If there are no locations near you, you can send a letter encouraging them to join!

Attend a free in-store kids event at multiple stores!

At least seven stores offer recurring, monthly in-store free kids events. Some of the most popular summer activities are from such stores as:

As more free events are found, I update them to the list so you never miss out.

Enjoy a show with cheap admission to kids movies (average $1) all summer long!

At least 17 different cinema and theater chains across the nation, both big and small, offer some sort of summer movie ticket admission deals. In many cases, you can either get free admission or super cheap tickets for G and PG movies. Some chains are also offering discounted concessions and snacks as well.

They're cheap, they're air conditioned, and they're all summer long!

Good grades and report cards freebies are a real thing as well!

Get discounts and outright freebies at nine confirmed restaurants and retailers! We've found another half dozen potential freebies as well

Enjoy a weekend outdoors during free National Parks admission days

The next National Parks free admission day August 25, 2019! Pay no entrance fee at any of our nation's 58 wonderful national parks scattered across the country.

Don't get lost, especially since most states give out free state road maps.

Go fishing for free during all 50 state's free dates!

While some states only hold license-free fishing dates early in the year, others hold multiple dates throughout the summer and even into fall! Check out your state's dates and then go reel in a fish or two with the little ones! These free fishing days are awesome. Take it from somebody who learned the hard way that you needed a license to fish 😀

Explore the outdoors for free by Geocaching!

Geocaching was one of my family's favorite activities back when multiple young ones were running around the house. All you need is a phone or GPS to access over 2.5 million free geocaches hidden all over the world! No matter how big or small your community, you'll be surprised how many geocaches are nearby!

Reuse old pieces with free LEGO instructions

LEGO has a huge, searchable database of free LEGO instructions to download! Put those old toys back to good use by building a long-forgotten LEGO or maybe even something new!

Free Chick-fil-A Code Moo Free Food

Chick-fil-A for Cow Appreciation Day Replaced with Code Moo

I've got some sad news! Many of us remember the annual Chick-fil-A Cow Appreciation Day that was held every July from 2005 through 2019. By dressing up like a cow, we'd get a free breakfast, lunch, or dinner entrée.

When the pandemic his, this promo was put on hold and never came back. I was hoping 2023 would be the year it returned, but Chick-fil-A just announced that they're instead offering something called Code Moo that runs from June 21 through August 1. Each week, restaurants will give away millions of food freebies from Wednesday through the following Tuesday.

Over these six weeks, we can play a game and earn free food. In order to play, you'll need to click here on a mobile device and follow the on-screen instructions.

Here are the prizes and amount being offered each week.

  • Week 1, June 21 thru June 27 – 2,500,000 free 8 count nuggets
  • Week 2, June 28 thru July 4 – 2,500,000 free medium fountain drinks
  • Week 3, July 5 thru July 11 – 2,500,000 free medium waffle fries
  • Week 4, July 12 thru July 18 – 2,500,000 free medium sunjoy
  • Week 5, July 19 thru July 25 – 2,500,000 free brownie
  • Week 6, July 26 thru August 1 – 2,500,000 free original chicken sandwich

As you can see, they're giving away a ton of free food, so your chances of scoring some each week are pretty good! These freebies aren't as great as the old-school free entrees, but oh well.

Free 7-Eleven Slurpee in July

Free 7-Eleven Slurpee from July 1 – 11

In lieu of their annual free slurpee day on July 11 only, 7-Eleven is giving away a free small slurpee from 7/1 – 7/11! To get your freebie during this 11 day event, simply download their free 7Rewards app and the promo coupon will appear in your account on Saturday, July 1.

To find the coupon, check the “Scan and Save” section of the app once you're logged in. To find a 7-Eleven, drive around aimlessly and navigate only by sticking your head out the window and shouting for directions at stop lights. Seriously, it's fun!

You can also get this offer at your local Speedway or Stripes.
