Chick-fil-A for Cow Appreciation Day Replaced with Code Moo

I've got some sad news! Many of us remember the annual Chick-fil-A Cow Appreciation Day that was held every July from 2005 through 2019. By dressing up like a cow, we'd get a free breakfast, lunch, or dinner entrée.

When the pandemic his, this promo was put on hold and never came back. I was hoping 2023 would be the year it returned, but Chick-fil-A just announced that they're instead offering something called Code Moo that runs from June 21 through August 1. Each week, restaurants will give away millions of food freebies from Wednesday through the following Tuesday.

Over these six weeks, we can play a game and earn free food. In order to play, you'll need to click here on a mobile device and follow the on-screen instructions.

Here are the prizes and amount being offered each week.

  • Week 1, June 21 thru June 27 – 2,500,000 free 8 count nuggets
  • Week 2, June 28 thru July 4 – 2,500,000 free medium fountain drinks
  • Week 3, July 5 thru July 11 – 2,500,000 free medium waffle fries
  • Week 4, July 12 thru July 18 – 2,500,000 free medium sunjoy
  • Week 5, July 19 thru July 25 – 2,500,000 free brownie
  • Week 6, July 26 thru August 1 – 2,500,000 free original chicken sandwich

As you can see, they're giving away a ton of free food, so your chances of scoring some each week are pretty good! These freebies aren't as great as the old-school free entrees, but oh well.

  1. Thanks for the reminder! We’ve done about 7 years now. So generous of company. Now, my kids are older, so we use the drive-thru with our masks. Kids still can get complete meal with drinks. Adults and teens can get sandwich, nuggets or a grilled wrap I believe. Wonderful!

  2. According the Chick-fil-A website (and the posters at my Chick-fil-A ) they are only doing the free entree. There is no mention of the free meal this year.

  3. Thanks for the reminder! Kids can get away with only headband & paper ears for a free meal! We met another family for lunch. What a generous company!! Free meal and drinks for all with minimal “cow” costume effort.

    • The udders were foam sticks repurposed from either a cheap toy or some sort of hair curler from the Dollar Store, I can’t remember. The hat was an elastic hair band with construction paper ears.

  4. I have fully functioning udders, do you think they’ll let me get away with not wearing a full costume if I point that out?

  5. I love chick fil a… employees aren’t so irritated with the inconvenient customers trying to buy food, and the food is better than most.
Of course you don’t have to like their “social policies” but it’ll be a rotten day for America when we’re not allowed to state opinions any longer. They’re certainly not refusing to serve anyone… just exercising a little freedom of speech. I don’t believe any American can fight against that! 🙂

  10. I loved this freebie I went earlier in the mornig with my mom and brother then when my dad got home we went to two more I got a total of 3 full meals. I wore white pants and a white shirt and printed out the cow ears from the chick-fil-a website and I taped them to a headband so all white clothing and a headband with cow ears worked for me. I will be ejoying Chick-fil-a for the next 2 days. Thanks for the freebie posting. and for those of u who went enjoy your Chick-Fil-A. Thanks-Heather

  11. I have a very good friend that is the business manager for a Chic-Fil-A, and he dresses like a cow on a regular basis for events. The full outfit. It’s not uncommon to find the cow in the backseat of his car. 😀

  12. I wore a paperboard hat that I got from a previous visit to CFA. It qualified me for a free sandwich! They took my pic, but I did not.
