Free JCPenney Kids Zone Event

Free JCPenney Kids Zone Event on May 11

Mark your calendars! On Saturday, May 11, stop by your local JCPenney between 11am-noon for the next free Kids Zone event. These free events are held by JCPenney on the second Saturday of each month. Just like my laundry cycle! No registration is needed – you just need to show up on time and you should be good to go.

Your child will design and make a free special trinket box & card for Mother's Day to build & take home. This craft includes a box, jewels, foam stickers, card with envelope, & marker. Kids will also get a free ID badge, lanyard, and collector's pin, and a Master Medallion once they complete 6 crafts.

All necessary materials will be provided and you don't need to signup ahead of time. As a thank you for coming, parents also receive a 10% off coupon valid for that day only. The coupon can be used either in store or online.

The following month's craft will be held on Saturday, May 11, where kids will make a special trinket box & card for Mother's Day. This craft will include a foam owl, feathers, foam stickers, string, and plastic needle.

Free GoodNites Sleep Underwear

Free Pull-Ups

Whoa, the classic free Huggies Pull-Ups offer has returned today! The last time I posted these was in 2010 when Costco was giving them away. Man, remember when Costco, Walmart, and Target used to give away freebies on a weekly basis? Good times.

Anyways, go here to request the boys or girls version of either Pull-Ups Potty Training Pants or Pull-Ups Night*Time Training Pants. The signup form is a little weird – you have to click the gender's box, but don't click the text links inside it or it'll take you to the store. Just select the box, then click the purple next button to access the signup form.

Freebies for Good Grades on Report Card

2024 Freebies for Good Report Card Grades

I was a nerdy, smart kid with my nose perpetually in a book and that trait carried over into adulthood. I'm the guy at the end of the bar more interested in reading my Kindle than socializing with strangers. Yet I've never been offered freebies based on how much I read or how smart I am! Oh, to be a kid again.

There are a lot of other websites with outdated information on freebies for good grades. I only included offers I could verify to some degree, but I strongly encourage you check with your own locations no matter what! Since these restaurants are usually franchises, offers heavily vary by location.

That said, here are all the places that give free stuff for good grades!

Good Grade Rewards

Allstate – Full-time students getting good grades qualify for their Smart Student Discount. They don't specify what constitutes “good grades,” nor do they say what the savings will be, so you'll need to ask your personal agent.

Amica – They have a form you can fill out requesting a good grade discount.

Chuck E. Cheese – Anybody can print their Super Student Award 🙂 It's a redeemable certificate for 10 free tokens per day, however a food purchase is required.

Farmer's Insurance – They have a “good student” promo where full-time students in high school or college under the age of 25 may qualify for a discount as long as they have good grades.

Financial Institutions – Hundreds of small banks, credit unions, and even insurance companies offer rewards for good grades as well! I highly suggest checking the website of any smaller institution you're with, as well as asking your local branch. I've seen some small banks offering up to $25 for good grades! Others offered smaller cash rewards, discounts, and other prizes.

I wish these offers had been around when I was a kid. I would have made some serious cash!

Geico – They offer a “good student discount” on insurance that's available when driving aged teens maintain a B average or better.

Jason's Deli – They replaced their old JDPickleCards offer with a new Kids Cash system. Kids under 12 got a free kid's meal at participating locations.

Liberty Mutual – You'll need a GPA of B or better in order to trigger their good student discount.

Nationwide – Students drivers aged 16 – 24 who maintain a B average qualify for a discount on auto insurance. Homeschooled students also qualify if they score in the top 20% of a test's national performance.

Pizza Hut – Pizza Hut used to have a site dedicated to this, but I believe it's since degraded to a “location specific” freebie. I'd definitely call ahead and ask! Hopefully they still recognize the great and classic Pizza Hut good grades deal. Seriously, I can remember getting this freebie in the late 80s!

Each marking period, any child who has 3 A's or the equivalent thereof, will receive one Personal Pan Pizza and a small soft drink or carton of milk by presenting his or her report card to the manager. This offer is good for Elementary and Middle School students. Dine-in only. Students must be present and the original report card must be presented.

Progressive – Save an additional 10% in most states just by maintaining a B average or better.

State Farm – Their “Good Student Discount” lets you save up to 25% if your teen driver gets good grades. These savings may last until your teen turns 25. Homeschoolers may also qualify with other options, such as submitting evidence they've taken certain national standardized tests administered within the past 12 months and ranked in the upper 20%.

Regional Good Grade Freebies

A lot of restaurants responded to my outreach by saying some sort of variation of “you'll need to check with your local location to see if they're participating and what they're offering.” This is a common situation for chains that operate franchises, since each location owner is free to set their own promotions.

  • Applebee's – While not quite nationwide, they confirmed on Twitter that it's up to your local restaurant as to whether or not they give out freebies for good grades. Many of the largest Applebee's franchises offer an “A is for Applebee's” reward program, where students 12 and under can get a free meal from the Kid's Menu if they receive an A on their report card.

Your best bet is searching for “A is for Applebee's” on Google and then adding your city or state. Many other freebie sites erroneously say this is a nationwide deal, but it's a great example of what kind of offer you can expect if your local franchise participates.
  • Baskin Robbins – They also confirmed on Twitter that giving away free scoops is “at the discretion of each franchise owner.” So call your local creamery!
  • Coldstone Creamery – They responded to my inquiry with “Hi, our stores are individually owned and operated. For special promotions and offers such as this, please reach out to your local store.” So it sounds like this might still be active on a regional basis.
  • Culver's – They said “Thanks for asking! Each restaurant is family owned and operated and they make decisions like this, so feel free to reach out to your local Culver's to see if they do anything”
  • IHOP – They said “Check your local restaurants for information on this!”
  • Krispy Kreme – Free original glazed donut for each A, up to a half-dozen. They said on Twitter that “It varies by location, check with your local shop!”
  • Marco's Pizza – Free one-topping pizza, but they said on Twitter “Thanks for reaching out. Because our stores are locally owned and operated, we suggest contacting your local Marco's Pizza directly.”
  • Sonic – They say “promotions vary by drive-in, we recommend contacting your local SONIC directly for the most up-to-date information. Thank you!”

That's a plot of potential free food for good grades!

Unconfirmed & Outdated Offers

Other sites report the following companies give freebies for good grades, but I've been unable to verify these claims on a nationwide basis. I've reached out to the following companies on Twitter, so please feel free to also message them and help get an answer 🙂

In the meantime, before trying to redeem any of these below, I'd make sure you call ahead first.

  • Bob Evans – As of 2019, the Star Student program “is not a program that is currently active at our restaurants.” A lot of other freebie sites say you can get a free scoop of ice cream with good grades from Bob Evans, but I can't find any confirmation on this.
  • Burger King – Free hamburger or ice cream cone for scoring 100% on a test. This sounds crazy regional, so I would contact your local BK to see if they're participating.
  • Cheryl's Cookies – Their Cookies for A's program is for K-8th grade students, but I can't find any information regarding this year.

A very popular program at Cheryl's is the Cheryl's Cookies for A's. Students present their report cards at retail locations and receive a free cookie per A, for up to 3 A's they have earned.

  • Chick-fil-A – Free 8 pack of nuggets if you have all A's and B's on a report card. They are one of the hardest companies to get a corporate response from, but I've once again reached out to them and will report back here if/when they respond.
  • McDonald's – K-5 grade students with straight A's get a free Happy Meal. 6-12 grade students get a free Value Meal.
  • Red Robin – Some sites claim students aged 10 and under get a free kids meal and students aged 11 and up get a free Monster Milkshake.
  • The Melting Pot – The Boca Raton, FL location used to offer a free three or four course meal for straight A's, but I'm not seeing any information for this year.
  • Wendy's – Other sites claim a report card with As and Bs will get a free dessert, but I see no official confirmation on this.

I'll keep this list updated as I find new offers, so if you find anything I missed, please let me know in the comments.

Free Lowe's Kids Workshop Craft

Free Lowe’s DIY Kid’s Kit – Garden Cart Planter on April 20

Registration is now open online for a free DIY kid's workshop to be held on Saturday, April 20 from 10am-1pm. Here's the signup link.

Lowe's has brought back their popular free kid's projects with DIY kits available every 2nd weekend of each month! The suggested child's age ranges for the Lowe's DIY Kits are between 4-11. All supplies and instructions are included, making it a fun children's task to complete.

However, this year they're also offering something new – attend the Kids' Workshops regularly and earn badges towards a free tool bag! The nitty gritty fine print can be found here, but long story short once you've earned twelve badges, you'll be issued a promotional code redeemable online for a free kid's tool bag or product of similar value.

So what's the upcoming workshop going to build?

April Event: Playful Garden Cart Planter

Kick-off spring with your little builder as they create a garden cart planter. Kids can grow new skills and take home a fun garden project just in time to start some seeds!

These look so cool – and they actually work! 8 year old Goob would have loved this toy and 40 year old Goob would totally pick it up late at night after all the kids had fallen asleep.

Lowe's Kids Workshop History

For over a decade, the free Lowe's Build & Grow workshop clinics were a staple monthly freebie. Just like the free Home Depot Kids Workshop, you could take your children to Lowe's on certain weekends and come away with a cool, custom built freebie. They were in-store workshops though, where attendees could make awesome projects right in Lowe's with the provided tools, safety gear, and work space. Then 30 minutes later the kids would always get to take home the cool toy craft they just made along with a collectible commemorative pin. They even gave coupons and discounts to workshop participants!

They shut the program down in 2017, but eventually brought them back and are still going strong in 2024. I really hope you and your family are able to keep enjoying these freebies for many years to come!

Kids Roller Skate Free

2024 Kids Roller Skate Free Program Update

Many Hiffers have taken advantage of the annual Kids Skate Free Club over the years. The good news is that it's coming back for 2024, but there was been a slight change to the program.

Instead of being 100% free, there is now a $4.99 membership cost that lasts for 12 months. So while there's a new cost, it's pretty small and nothing else has changed. Joining the membership will get you 2 Kids Skate Free passes per child, per week, all year long. These passes are only valid for one week and will automatically expire, but they're replaced with two new valid passes every Monday!

Once you locate a nearby rink, click their name to see dates, times, and age limits for their free skating. Register an account, then download the MyHownd app on your smartphone. This will be the app that lets you claim your kids free passes each week. Your first set of passes will be available in the MyHownd app on Monday morning following your free registration.

This program is good at a variety of locations in 36 states. Some locations have a $3-$4 skate rental fee, so be sure to check the website to see the details at your local rink. While the new change is not totally free, these passes don't expire until the end of the year, so you make your money back pretty fast.

Free LEGO Brickit App

Brickit App Scans Your LEGO Pile and Shows You What to Build!

Whoa….

Seriously, WHOA!!!

I hope you're ready for some magic and potential witchcraft because this is AMAZING.

In 2021, a group of LEGO fans unveiled an app called Brickit that scans your pile of LEGO pieces and show everything you can build! It even provides build instructions right in the app and will highlight the pieces in your pile so you know where to find them! You can read more about it here or check it out in action below!

WHERE WAS THIS WHEN I WAS A KID?!? When I get a time machine, to heck with going back and watching the Pyramids get built. Instead, I'm heading back to the early 80s and handing little Goob my old iPhone with only Brickit installed.

I originally posted this a few years ago and just checked it out again today on a whim. The app seems to have come a long way since then and it's even now available on both Apple iOS and Google Android (they originally only had the iPhone app). Something tells me LEGO will buy this app and make it an “official” app down the road because it is just too darn cool. But there's no reason you can't download it today and get some new fun out of your LEGO collection!

Free National Parks Admission

Free National Park Pass for 4th Graders worth $80!

In addition to the free National Park Admission Days scattered throughout the year, did you know that 4th graders can get a free entrance pass worth $80 as well? Even better, these freebie passes work for the entire family!

Simply sign up here and then use your pass at any national park this summer. This pass will grant free entrance up to three adults and to all children under 16, as long as you're all traveling in the same car with your 4th grader. According to the fine print rules, the current season passes expire on August 31, 2024.

You'll need to print your pass and bring it in the car when you visit a park. Electronic copies aren't accepted and each pass has a unique code, which means you can't share it. When arriving at the park, either show the pass to a ranger or leave it on the dashboard of your car while you're out exploring the amazing scenery.

Don't forget you can also request free national park trip planning kits for select parks around the country.

Free LEGO Mini Model Event

Free LEGO Custom Photo Frame Event on Apr 20 & 21

LEGO is bringing back their free in-store events on Saturday, April 20 and Sunday, April 21! It also looks like they'll have more events throughout the summer.

A limited amount of free LEGO customized photo frames are available to those who register for space ahead of time, so be sure to signup here if you're interested in attending! To find the registration link, scroll down to “Celebrate Your Star Power” and click on the “Sign up” link. Then enter your zip code, select your local store, and reserve your space.

Is your child a star in the making? Whether they express themselves through music, movies, singing, dancing or any other art form, we want to celebrate their passion with a fun building activity. Kids will create and decorate their own LEGO® photo frame to show off their creative accomplishments.

This event is scheduled for an hour and intended for children ages 6-12. All children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Supplies will be provided, but they may be given to others if you don't arrive on time.

Also, I've noticed a few super cheap items lately in LEGO's sale and discount section. If you have a little one with an upcoming birthday who loves LEGOs, it might be worth scoping out.

Free Michaels Kids Club Event

Free Michaels Kids Club in April 2024

In addition to their free Sunday Make Break events, Michaels also offers free Kids Club events. These are in-store sessions where kids get to make customized art projects to then take home and keep. All supplies are included too! Space is limited, so you'll want to RSVP a spot for free.

These events typically run from 10am-12pm, but each store is free to set their own hours. The easiest way to do so is use this link of in-store events and then select your local store from the left sidebar. Here's what I'm seeing for their upcoming schedule

  • April 13 – Paper Flower Bouquet Collage
  • April 27 – Friendship Bracelets

Free IKEA Secure Hardware Kit

Free IKEA Secure Hardware Kit

If you've got a small child at home or the prospect of an intoxicated Goob visiting, you might want to pick up a free IKEA secure hardware kit. They're clearly designed for IKEA chests and drawers, but they're just simple L brackets that should work with most other lightweight furniture as well.

They have two kits to pick from, depending on the size of your furniture, however you can pick both of them if you have a ton of potential weapons furniture.

Free Home Depot Kids Workshop

Free Home Depot Kids Workshop on April 6

The next free Kids Activity Kit from Home Depot is just around the corner! These in-store events take place on the first Saturday of each month from 9am to 12 noon, which means the next event is Saturday, April 6! Space is limited, so you need to register a spot under “In-Store Kids Workshops.”

In addition to keeping the craft forever, each kit comes with a free certificate of achievement, free Workshop Apron, and free commemorative pin.

April 6, 2024 Workshop Event: Lattice Planter

Explore the features of plants and consider how they impact our world. Students will select the type of plant they want to grow and map out a watering schedule to ensure it thrives in their Lattice Planter.

You can find more info on this month's free craft here. These free craft kits are intended for kids aged 5-12, though the age range is simply a guide instead of a strict rule. I can also confirm grown adults aged over 30 sometimes have trouble helping their little brother because I'm terrible with tools.

Don't miss the free Workshop Extension Activity!

Each free kit also has an “extension activity” created in tandem with Discovery Channel Education. These are kind of cool, as they let your child “upgrade” the free craft they built. The April 2024 Lattice Planter extension teaches your child how to learn about plants and their importance to the world around them.

Free Home Depot Kit 2024 Schedule

Free Baby Belly Badges

Free Enfamil Belly Badges

Once you join the free Enfamil Family Beginnings program, they'll send out freebies like these free baby belly badges. Ohhhh, strong alliteration, they've already won me over. I'm an easy date.

Belly Badges are simply stickers that you place on your baby's belly to share special moments and milestones with friends and family. When you join the Enfamil Family Beginnings program, you'll receive a set of Belly Badges in the mail right away! Limit one offer per household.

In addition to these freebies, you'll get free formula and coupons sent to you. You'll also be entered for a chance to win free formula for a year!
