Below you'll find a full list of free state maps available from most state tourism departments. As a backup, I've also linked to any state Department of Transportation that give away free road maps, both online or physically mailed to your house.
Almost every state offers a full map in their visitor's guide. For the DOT links, virtually all of them offer multiple free, highly detailed online .pdfs of their highways, roads, and other travel methods.
On top of that, many DOTS (I'd guesstimate 40ish) also have some sort of “click here to order a physical map” link. If you're looking for a free state highway map you can stash in your car's glovebox, this is the link you want to look for on your state's DOT site. You might have to click “highway map” or “road map” before the order form will appear. You might even want to click “Maps” in the menu bar and do a fresh search, because like I said, it's an option for most states!
If you manage to find a dot map or order form that I missed, please let me know. Here's to never getting lost again!
Free Alabama State Map – This is the first .travel website I've ever seen. Cool story, huh? (al dot map)
Free Alaska State Map – Here's the first case of “so, does this come with a map?” (ak dot map)
Free Arizona State Map – Their site promotes “Old West activities.” The heck is that? Like riding around on a horse and shooting pistols in the air? If so, then Arizona here I come! (az dot map)
Free Arkansas State Map – They have a plethora of travel brochures and even a Living in Arkansas guide for those considering moving there. Wait, where are you going? (ar dot map)
Free California State Map – It's no wonder they offer a free map given how many freaking tourism commercial they run! (ca dot map)
Free Colorado State Map – Their site tagline is “come to life.” Sounds like they're reanimating the dead out there. (co dot map)
Free Connecticut State Map – They don't update their site too often, but at least they finally offer a free map with their tourism guide. (ct dot map)
Free Delaware State Map – The only thing I know about Delaware is that President Biden is from there and it's the only state that sometimes loses commercial air travel.
During four periods since 1990, Delaware has been the only U.S. state without any scheduled airline flights: from 1993 through 1998, again from 2000 to 2006, from April 2008 until June 30, 2013, and between April 2015 and February 2021.
No wonder people are looking for highway maps here! (de dot map)
Free Florida State Map – When I first made this list in 2009, there was an “Authentic Florida Expert” everywhere on the site. She looked like a stereotypical grandma, but now she's nowhere to be seen. Uh oh, you know what that means… (fl dot map)
Free Georgia State Map – If I know Georgia, they'll also send you a peach. (ga dot map)
Free Hawaii State Map – Screw the map, their site has some cool pictures of volcanoes and lava! (hi dot map)
Free Idaho State Map – Not only do they have free maps, but Idaho even offers a free children's brochure. It's just a single page that says “hope you like potatoes,” but at least it's something. (id dot map)
Free Illinois State Map – Every time I visit Illinois, I lean into their state name and always drop the S at the end of words. It drives my friends bananas. (il dot map)
Free Indiana State Map – Indiana earns the distinction of being the first state site I've seen with a prominently displayed “free things to do here!” section. I guess that's what it takes to get people to come to anywhere in Indiana outside of Pawnee. (in dot map)
Free Iowa State Map – Just the place to go if you're really excited Presidential elections a full year ahead of time. (ia dot map)
Free Kansas State Map – Quick, can you name three cities in Kansas?! Neither could I. (ks dot map)
Free Kentucky State Map – Their state logo is by far the best I've seen yet. (ky dot map)
Free Louisiana State Map – I have nothing bad to say about Louisiana because New Orleans lets you walk around with alcohol TO GO. (la dot map)
Free Maine State Map – While signing up they want you to “be sure to indicate which regions of Maine and activities interest you.” Uhhh, does eating lobster and telling people I've been to Maine count as interests? (me dot map)
Free Maryland State Map – I can't tell you the number of times the state of Maryland has screwed me over, so visit with caution. I hated Baltimore years before The Wire ever aired. (md dot map)
Free Massachusetts State Map – I've still yet to ever correctly spell this state's name. It's the only item on my Bucket List I doubt I'll ever accomplish. (ma dot map)
Free Michigan State Map – Michigan's page has a section called “Air Zoo.” We can finally see when pigs fly! (mi dot map)
Free Minnesota State Map – Minnesota has over 11,000 lakes. I want maps for each and every one of them. (mn dot map)
Free Mississippi State Map – I always forget how to spell this state. What comes after the M again? (ms dot maps)
Free Missouri State Map – Their site advertises that internships are available. For the whole state? (mo dot maps)
Free Montana State Map – They offer a free winter guide in addition to the state map, but I can give you said guide right here. Step 1: stay inside. Step 2: go outside once spring arrives. (mt dot map)
Free Nebraska State Map – Nebraska wants us to “share the road trip.” See, even their own tourism board thinks the best part of Nebraska is driving away from it! (ne dot map)
Free Nevada State Map – Fill out the form you'll get a free state maps for the price of none! (nv dot map)
Free New Hampshire State Map – Their phone number is 800-FUN-IN-NH. I wonder how many people call it looking for 800-DUNG-ON-I. (nh dot map)
Free New Jersey State Map – “It's never too early to begin planning your next New Jersey getaway vacation!” Really? Fine, I want to book a room for August 10-12, 2081. (nj dot map)
Free New Mexico State Map – NM should capitalize on Breaking Bad and change their slogan to “Come for the meth. Stay for nature.” (nm dot map)
Free New York State Map – I always thought the “I Heart NY” campaign was for the city, not the state. Shows what I know. (ny dot map)
Free North Carolina State Map – They offer a free winery and Civil War travel guide. It's as if they were targeting me alone. (nc dot map)
Free North Dakota State Map – I heard North Dakota exists, guess it's not a myth! (nd dot map)
Free Ohio State Map – Their website used to be called DiscoverOhio.com. But then Ohio 2 was discovered and they've been awfully quiet ever since. (oh dot map)
Free Oklahoma State Map – I'm kind of interested in their additional “Agritourism Map.” Is this a tourist industry that Oklahoma made up? (ok dot map)
Free Oregon State Map – I love that they also offer an official kid's guide to Oregon. Like it's that complicated. “Hey kids! Are your parents coming here? Then so are you! Now shut it.” (or dot map)
Free Pennsylvania State Map – The last time I drove through PA, I paid around $12 trillion dollars in tolls. This is me right now thinking about my next road trip through the state. (pa dot map)
Free Rhode Island State Map – Their site says “put down that spreadsheet, tear yourself away from your inbox for a second, and fill out this form.” Uhhh … RUN, THEY'RE WATCHING US THROUGH OUR COMPUTERS!! (dot maps)
Free South Carolina State Map – Home state, represent! Don't be fooled by the domain name, it's legit. We're a sneaky bunch, just ask Major Robert Anderson. (sc dot map)
Free South Dakota State Map – Ok, wait a minute here. South Carolina's slogan: Smiling Faces, Beautiful Places. South Dakota's slogan: Great Faces, Great Places. It's like South Dakota wasn't even trying! (sd dot map)
Free Tennessee State Map – I doubt their slogan of “we're playing your song” is accurate. I didn't hear any polka music being played. (tn dot map)
Free Texas State Map – Their travel guide is 272 freaking pages long! That's not a guide, it's a book. (tx dot map page)
Free Utah State Map – I'm extremely disappointed Utah removed the separate checkbox for German visitors, as it completely ruined my Utah being a vacation mecca for Germans joke. Their DOT only has a high-res map to view, but you can still get a highway map from the first link. (ut dot map)
Free Vermont State Map – I'm not sure how all the seasonal maps differ from each other, but it's nice knowing that I have so many options with them. (vt dot map)
Free Virginia State Map – I once living in Virginia. It was as exciting as this story. (va dot map)
Free Washington D.C. Map – Our nation's capital isn't quite a state (even though it should be!), but you can get a free map via their visitor's guide. (dc dot map)
Free Washington State Map – As a Mariners fan and frequent traveler to the Pacific Northwest, I must say I absolutely love this section of the world. (wa dot map)
Free West Virginia State Map – I image WV looking like a scene from Justified but with more coal and moonshine. (wv dot map)
Free Wisconsin State Map – I spent some time in Wisconsin once. Believe the hype. They've got some good cheese. (wi dot map)
Free Wyoming State Map I updated their slogan to “Wyoming: Forever west. Until continental drift takes care of that.” (wy dot map)
Free National Park Maps – This website has over 1,600 high-res scans of national parks! You can search by state or alphabetically, as well as download many of them.
That took a lot longer than I thought it would. I need a vacation.
Thank you so much for the map information! It’s a great help! Many are like state secrets, impossible to get! If you think the toll roads in Pennsylvania are bad, you should see the property taxes! And, PA has a special (extra) 33 cent gas tax too, so those in the know who live around the borders go to OTHER STATES to buy gas because it’s cheaper. It was put there thanks to our former Gov. Corbett just for the state police…. They get enough money pulling over speeders, they don’t need extra revenue.
Oh and yes, MD is a really messed up state, especially Baltimore. My hubs lived there and he said the people there were very weird, except Bill who owned a restaurant/bar in Little Orleans, apparently he was OK!
Pittsburgh USED to be a decent city, but once some magazine published it as the “Most Livable City” all the riff raff moved in and it’s not so livable anymore. Not to mention all the New Yorkers moving in from the past few years!
Philadelphia shouldn’t even be considered a part of PA, I wish they’d just annex that cesspool to NJ or NY. All our lousy politicians come from that direction.
Thanks for creating this guide. FYI: Washington state no longer has free paper maps (checked out the link on July 11, 2022).
Wow, your descriptions are waaaaay out of date. Vice President Biden is now President Biden. He was elected in 2020–perhaps you heard. Also, Delaware does have a commercial airport (ILG).
Good call on updating the post to President Biden part!
The airport comment only recently became outdated though! I missed Frontier Airlines returning to IGL last year.
I really felt like I needed a map to find the comment posting page. Thank you for all the hard work of researching every state you put a lot into this list. The highlight of the day was reading your one liners for each state especially for MD. I’m from GA and don’t even want to drive by that state and NJ, I’ll visit in 2085, I would add “maybe.”
Years ago we used to visit Ocean City MD, but the cops were absolutely insane there! This was after the summer crazies left. OC New Jersey isn’t too bad, but the ocean water can be described as “oily”.
One plus is there aren’t too many poisonous snakes, mostly copperheads, but they aren’t too numerous.
I recently attempted to get free printed state highway maps from all 50 states, like you would often pick up in visitor centers along the nations highways. From my experience online: Connecticut, Hawaii, Louisiana, New York, and Rhode Island are not available. However, Hawaii will send you a visitor’s guide, that has okay maps of each island in it. Louisiana makes the pdf file available of front and back that you can have printed yourself.
California sends you a vacation map, which is almost a highway map, but not quite.
I’m still waiting to see what I get from Delaware, New Hampshire, Vermont, and West Virginia, since I ordered the visitor’s guide, but I don’t think I will be getting maps from them.
Pennsylvania makes you print a paper order form, and mail it so them (USPS aka snail mail). I tried emailing it to their publications staff first, will see how that works.
Alaska will send a free map, but I paid $1.99 shipping. I thought that was fair.
I only found this site after the joy of searching for all the states individually myself, and considered putting together something like this page. Now I don’t have to, Yay! So thank you for that.
Lastly, Washington District of Columbia (D.C.) also offers a free map. I would recommend updating this page to include it.
I am disappointed in the states that no longer print them at all. Growing up and traveling the nation half a century ago, these maps always told a story of where you had been, and we always tried to get one from every state we visited. I can always purchase the missing states from Rand McNally, but it isn’t the same, and doesn’t give as rich of an experience.
Ooops, my bad. I see that Washington D.C. is on the list.
Again, thank you for all the work putting together this page.
Thanks for such a great page! I do cross country bicycle touring and just ordered about 20 maps. Paper maps are so much better than digital. Also kudos for keeping this updated 12 years+ after you originally published it.
Thanks, Ty! I hope you enjoy the free maps and put them to good use!
I’ve managed to obtain all the state highway maps aside from AZ, AK, AR, CT, MA, RI, OH and NH. Sent them messages. I’ve now successfully bicycled across 48 states and like to have the maps on hand for fellow bicyclist tourist to look at when they come by. Hoping to obtain all 50.
I love REAL maps, plus they don’t take batteries!
The Oklahoma link didn’t have an order online option, but I found one here (just select the guide & map kit): https://www.travelok.com/brochures
I’ve already ordered that and several others to Canada and I’m so excited, many thanks for these links!
Thanks for the link, I’ll get the post updated today!
Enjoy the free maps!
Thank you so much for the time and energy that you put this is list! This is an awesome resource!
You are so very welcome, I’m glad you found it useful! Thank YOU for the nice comment as well, I sometimes wonder if anybody is actually using these guides!
So helpful – thanks very much. We are planning a(nother) cross country RV trip for next summer, and using your posts is so much easier than having to look for each state’s tourism site. Now – how about Canada???
THANK YOU so much. Our family is planning a cross-country RV trip. This page was such a blessing! You’re awesome, sir!
I can’t believe that Washington is actually charging Canadians for their otherwise “free” map. Sigh
It’s not free to mail across the boarder. Most states will charge.
States that doesn’t have a complete state road map at their rest areas & welcome centers. cheat themselves out of tourism. there are alot of the opportunities which become available to them when we have a complete picture of how to get there . Having to put puzzles together takes up time that I want to spend enjoying my trip. Go back to the basics and be user friendly. Cutting corners causes failure!!
Great find!
Thanks much! I’ve been trying to find a map everywhere I go but no one carries them. Walmart did have 3 but not of the state I needed. Going on a road trip and want to do all back roads. It is so much fun that way and GPS it to hard to view all the roads as to where they start and where they end. We did a trip to Vermont that way and it was the best scenic route ever. Yes the trip normally takes 6 hours and going the back roads took 13 hours but WOW what a great time!
I sent and email to [email protected] as listed on Goob’s page for Washington State requesting a Highway Map. I advised them I was trying to plot the varies area’s of the state I wished to visit and could do it of the printable .pdf. The mailed a top of the state highway map in under 10 days.
Wow, that’s awesome!
Goob… You are a gentleman and a scholar. It is amazing that one man would put this much time and effort into a project to make life easier on some many others. I am planning a vacation for this summer and just went through and order maps for all states I will be passing through accept Washington. When I read the remarks on here that they charge $3.00 for theirs it was just too simple to route around them since they have nothing that Oregon doesn’t have. Again, thanks for taking hours off my search. Unfortunately, I think I am stuck paying Walmart for a US Map.
How was Oregon? Washington is Heaven compared to the dump that Oregon was. Not sure how you managed to hold your breath long enough to get through Oregon.
Nice post. I study one thing more challenging on completely different blogs everyday. It is going to all the time be stimulating to learn content material from different writers and practice a bit something from their store. I’d prefer to make use of some with the content on my weblog whether or not you don’t mind. Natually I’ll give you a hyperlink on your internet blog. Thanks for sharing.
Just a heads up, Washington state DOT doesn’t print state road maps anymore, but you can still find “Scenic Drives Road Map” maps for Washington, it’s what I carry in my car. I got mine from the local visitors’ center, but the copyright info is “(C) 2017 VGP Destination marketing, to order more copies visit [scenicWA dot com]” and most info centers are willing to mail them out. Happy HIFfing!
When will I recieve my map?
Oh I forgot Pennsylvania too
Cant seem to get a California or Rhode Island State map. What is the link for Alaska and Hawaii to get theirs also?
I updated all those states today!
First, thanks for all your efforts in sanitizing and compiling all this info.
I have been trying to get a free map of whole of USA, of at-least 2ft x 3ft size or more.
I am new in USA and think this would be a good way of getting a ‘hang’ of the country.
If you know of some site which sends such a large printed map then please share.
Alternately, if there is a high-res image, I can posterize it and print it in multiple pages and paste side-by-side
I have now,.. trying to find a free USA map for school teaching. It is hard. Still trying.
You. Are. A. Hero. My GPS refuses to acknowledge some roads, and what if I’m in the middle of nowhere at 3:00am, looking for the nearest interstate? I need these maps! I’ve seriously been in that situation, somewhere in NJ… Not funny.
Yeah, not good to get lost in some parts of New Jersey. I lived there for 35 years.
Wow, thank you so much!! I do crafts with maps and this is amazing!!
You are funny!! Great information, thanks.
What a wonderful site. Thanks so much!
Thank you so much!
Thank you for this information.
Thank you so much for your time putting all this together.
Thanks! I was just fixing to go on a google search to order maps for vacation this year. But of course you have done all the work for me. Great job!
thanks, but NY has no maps –
Washington State no longer prints highway maps, for what that’s worth.
I know your comment is over 4 years old but WSDOT started printing maps again in 2017. Just to clear up any confusion to anyone reading these comments. And yes, it’s free.
Looking for a map of ALL the United States for free….have you found a free one? Thanks!
UDOT actually offers free maps, but I haven’t seen the German checkbox yet.
The dot map link only goes to a PDF version of the Utah map. I have found a link that can help. Here it is.
http://www.udot.utah.gov/main/f?p=100:pg:0::::V,T:,346
Louisiana DOT doesn’t offer maps online anymore. You have to go to Baton Rouge just to get a map!!!
Or you can go to, on the boarder tourist center an get maps free. I am a truck driver , I know.
Thank you.
I can’t email New Mexico DOT for a map.
The Alaska DOT and West Virginia link is working, but when I click to request an Alaska map, it says that there is an error. Same with the West Virginia DOT page.
The South Carolina link isn’t working.
Thanks, I think I found a better link!
Thanks! The link works.
Does the Alaska Travel Guide come with an Alaska Highway map. I’ve looked at the website to order your official travel planner, but does it come with a map? I won’t order it unless it comes with a map.
You crack me up ……….. at a time I can use a good giggle…..Thank you for all your hard work putting this together.
how do I get a free US map mailed to me?
Able to get free state highway maps for 45 states. Alabama, Connecticut, Hawaii, Washington, and West Virginia are the only exceptions. Cheapos! If 45 states can proudly hand out a state highway map, why couldn’t they?
I had to email the DOT for Alabama to get a map. Just asked politely and they sent me a response saying they put one in the mail to my address. I can’t remember if I sent an email to Connecticut DOT or someone on their tourism site, but they did the same. Had to email Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau website and they sent me Official Guide Maps of the islands. All of that was free. I don’t recall having issues with WV, but I’d try to email someone. Don’t waste your time on Washington. They offer no help.
Thank you for the feedback! I will do as you suggest. I just like to have a hard copy map of each state. Living in a rural area in Montana with spotty cell service, it’s always a good idea to have a paper map for travel!
How do you get an actually map mailed to you.
Awesome site! So helpful. Thank you! 🙂
Some of the links only send you the guides.
Most of the guides include multi-page highway/state maps in the back ~10 pages. I tried to confirm as many of them as possible by viewing their PDF versions online first and, if I couldn’t find a map, I linked to DOT maps. I’m actually in the process of adding DOT links for every state so as to have multiple map options.
Was not able to find free map for Utah
Thanks, I’ve updated the link.
thank you x3, btw, Washington state map is not free.
Thank you so much for this awesome list! We are a homeschooling family and these guidebooks and maps are much more fun to learn all about the states and capitals than just rote memorization! Your hard work is very much appreciated!
I really love this site. I am wanting to get at least 1 map from every state, this made it easy.
Yes, North Dakota does exist. Actually, North Dakota is the top producer of spring wheat, durum, barley, sunflowers, dry edible, beans, pinto beans, flax, canola and honey. Plus, we grown many other speciality crops. Every time you eat pasta chances are there is North Dakota durum in it. As a family farmer I think it’s important to let people know that we feed the growing world….and our state does exist. ?
Thank you thank you thank you to the awesome individual that put all the time energy and effort in putting this list together. You have no idea what a wealth of information this is been thank you babe!
You’re very welcome!
Thank you! This is fantastic!
Just looking for a regular map of Wyoming
Hi! Whoever you are!
Thank you very much for putting this together! I used to be able to go on a road trip with my AAA trip tik in hand. Now, mapquest, GPS or Google takes the fun out of it!
We are going to FL from here in MI. I ordered georgia and Florida maps ( with kudos to you)
We leave on the 12th so I hope the maps get here in time! Have to go to FL for my husband’s mom funeral?. So, again, thank you! [email protected]
New Mexico map is NOT free. The travel guide is but charge to get map.
Thanks, I’ve updated the listing to show how to get the free road map via their state DOT
I love how every site has a:
“How did you find out about us?” Tab. As if we weren’t aware of these states existing.
hahaha
I need a Washington map
Here’s a better link for North Dakota: http://www.ndtourism.com/visitor-information-order-form
The name makes more sense, eh. THANK YOU for the list. I nerdily ordered brochures from every state to go with our study of US geography this year.
Thanks!
Trying to get a map of state of Maine and having trouble
What kind of error are you receiving?
Thank you so much for putting this together! These maps are going to come in handy for my sons schooling!!
Thank you for your site! I am making paper flowers for my wedding out of maps. I was going to order one from every state. I happened upon your site and I’m sure I saved myself hours of searching for the correct url for each state. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
You are why Washington charges for theirs.
Awesome idea and congratulations on your upcoming wedding! 🙂
WOW, Thank You for all the work it took to put this together!
My pleasure!
Massachusetts doesnt have a decent travel guide that i can find one on there site is onlu 16 pages
Yeah, they’ve unfortunately been an elusive holdout for years now. No idea why.
Thank you so much for putting this list together!
The Mississippi link is broken.
Thanks, fixed
Just so you know, the Georgia DOT link is broken!
Looks like they rolled it over to another link. It’s an actual legit map now!
You have to pay 3 dollars for a Washington map?!
Lame….
super lame
Thank you
Whew! You just saved me hours of research! We’re traveling from Texas to Maine by two different routes encompassing numerous States. Your site was a Godsend or rather, an HIFsend! THANK YOU SO MUCH for having put it all together in one place. You’re an angel !!!!!
That’s amazingly awesome! Thanks for sharing that story, I always wonder if people actually get to use these maps 🙂
How long does it usually take for them to come in the mail? I ordered mine over a week ago but it still hasn’t come yet.
Some take up to six weeks, but less than three looks standard.
The NY state map is only free to download, they charge for an actual map.
I think the charge is for the New York City Guide.
I got mine free.
Thanks, I’ve updated the list above. The one good part in all this is the NV DOT is confirmed to mail out free maps! Not a bad backup plan and probably a better map.
Hey Goob, great list. Do you know where I can get a free world map? Thanks!
Washington State maps are only free if they’re being mailed to a US address. They charge $7.50 for the FREE map to Canada… 🙁
No longer available.
Great job getting this info together, and I thank you very much!
Thanks for putting this list together! Also, yes. Many Germans visit Utah every year. If you’ve ever go hiking in any of Utah’s National Parks, you’d be hard pressed not to meet a German couple or family.
Really? I had no idea about that!
thank this is very helpful for kids thank you for your answers they rock on my child paper and give good grades
Good Job! very helpful to all. Thanks for your effort.
Great info. Thanks!
Thank you so much for all your hard work in putting this sire together! Love your sense of humor!
You da MAN Goob! Gracias!
Thanks I’m thinking about moving there –
Thank you so much! I’m taking my son to Virginia for a week and this will let him research some activities!
did a good job, this what I was looking for
This is Great! Thanks for your efforts
Thank you for your hard work. Planning a 4-5 week trip across the US. Requested maps and info from about 25 states. Already receiving some info in a little over 1 week.
Thanks for the hard work, very impressive. I’ve ordered several state maps so we’ll see how well they respond.Rick
Arizona doesn’t send maps as of November 1st, might want to update that-
Pamela Kennedy, because we like it that way. There is a huge difference between the two states..LOL
I echo other comments here in thanking you for your hard work! I swear, it took me a while of online esearch to get close to getting a free NY map and I live here!
Thank you so much for compiling this list. You saved me hours of work. I shared your link with at least 6 State sites that requested how I obtained their information.
Just ordered from each state so I can share these in travel programs with the seniors at my nursing home-thanks for doing all the hard work!
Thanks for the great list & the time you have put into this!!!! So far every state except for Alabama & Washington have sent me a free map. Washington says due to budget constraints and GPS the have depleted all printed copies!!! Alabama want to sell you a map thru their DOT site!!!
Hey fellow traveler, thanks for all the hard work. Like your comments, added a little humor to it all
Thank you for all your time putting this together.
got Oregon but not from Washington
No maps from Tennessee, Georgia, or Oregon. But they did send me travel guides.
Looks like Illinois will not send a map. I tried ordering a couple times with no luck and now they don’t have maps on their site
…
Thanks for the list.
thank you made it through the entire list. We will have a ton of stuff to study this year during our Exploration to 1800.
Thank you so much for all the time that you put into this.????????
Only a fool would judge Baltimore by The Wire. I’m sure the city doesn’t mind having one less fool visit.
if you ever make it to Arizona be sure to visit Old Tucson 🙂
…I don’t mean Tucson…its Old Tucson, place of Old West Entertainment 😉
Hey!! Under the Michigan Map you mentioned the AIR ZOO. It is TOTALLY Worth seeing and is NOT a disappointment at all. Hoof on down to the Kalamzoo area.–it is fabulous.
So far it looks like Indiana will only download a map and not mail one and Virginia charges for theirs. I appreciate all of your hard work, but a lot of biased opinions on some of these states, however I’m picking up that this is just your style.
Great site, tons of information. When I set my website up within the month, would you be interested in posting your link for my viewers as I’m sure this would be a delight for them. You have put a lot of hard work into your site and I think people can benefit from your website, not only is it a learning experience but contains valuable information. Thanks Annie
Thanks so much, I really appreciate the time you put into this. I have a 5yr old that LOVES maps, He has a map from the Columbus Zoo & his trip to COSI. he wanted them hung on his bedrm wall, he loves looking at them & following his route he took that day. I picked up a county map at the court house, when we are going somewhere he likes to see what roads we are taking. I thought maybe I could get a state map for learning (the capital & rivers etc.) I found this page so we are going to be learning a lot. Thanks again I can’t wait to see his face when he starts getting these maps. I know that the time you put into this will put a SMILE on a little boys face for a LIFETIME. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU,
I also love maps for all the reasons your son does and I am 68 years old.
I’ve been to the Michigan Air Zoo… was not a let down. very impressive.
Perhaps you should visit WV sometime. I can guarantee that you will be surprised at the beauty our state holds! (You shouldn’t believe everything you see on television)
thanks! got what I needed!!
wow!!! what a great idea. I was able to get maps from many states, all at one time, for various road trips we plan on taking this summer. BRAVO!!!!!!! 10 out of 10 and 10 gold stars!!!
Great work , Thanks !
Great resource but I have had problems connecting with Alabama and figuring out how to get a map from Cal. and Conn.
The travel guide for Washington now has a FREE shipping option! 🙂
GREAT site with ALL the good maps! Very helpful and informative. Thanks….
This is the best map/travel guide website ever! EXCELLENT JOB! Thank You!
thank you! this is just what i needed, i love looking through these 🙂
Thanks so much for this site. Our walking club is trying to log enough miles to “Walk Across America” and we need state maps to show our progress. This site provided us with the tools to request maps from nearly every state we will “walk” across.
And while Minute Man 3 doesn’t appreciate your humor, I noticed that he managed to read through your list and probably avail himself of these resources. To each his own, I guess, and again, thanks so very much.
Thank You for taking the time to compile this list I was able to get all the information I needed for my up coming travels it is very much appreciated.
Thanks for taking the time and effort to compile this site. I used it to build up a library of maps for my summer travels. However, as much as I congratulate you for your effort, I also criticize you for the unneeded arrogance and crude remarks you have made about several states. Your efforts to make the list available are appreciated. Your humor is a total flop and insult to many.
Thank you for taking the time to put all of this information together. My oldest is in 4th grade and loves maps and geography. I have ordered many of these for him. Thanks again!!
Thank you so much! My nine-year-old son is collecting maps and really enjoying them. This website really helped us with his Christmas gift!!!
in a word..awesomeness!
Thanks Goob! Much appreciated
Thanks for all your hard work! I really appreciate this site. Washington State now charges postage for their stuff. It has been privatized.
Washington State last printed their map for 2008-2009 editions. Shame on them. I really hope other states don’t follow suit with this.
THANKS – this is awesome!!! I wonder why Tourism and Visitors’ Bureaus stopped sending people maps, which is stupid! Your site is the best!
Thank you.
Actually there is a lot of polka music in TN…
Awesome!! From a homeschool mom.. thanks for all your time and hard work 🙂
Thanks, this is great, I seen a lot of places I would like to see.
I just wanted to get a few state maps in my gas station and guides so I would have the information upon request… thank you so much for having this very helpful site!!!!!!!!!!
loved it all except for Washington. Why do they have to be so difficult when the other 49 states gave theirs for free!!!
Love this compilation – thank you so much!!
A lot of work from your side, a lot of thanks from mine!
Thank you, I appreciate that!
Do you know where I can get a free map of the U.S. like in that picture?
No, unfortunately not. It would be cool though!
Thank you! We appreciate this organized, helpful information!
My Granddaughter is in the 5th grade. Her class is studying the 50 US states and needs maps of each state. This was an awesome site…It had them all! Thank you to whomever found and put all of this together. It has helped to educate our future.
Wow, that’s amazing! Thanks for sharing 🙂
thanks great website!!1 will be visiting from England in oct. on a road trip so there guides will help to sear me in the right direction . MC smith
Michigan Map – Air Zoo. NOT a letdown! Anyone even remotely interested in aviation, airplanes/copters, history and fun, interactive things to do should go there. There are flight simulators, games, history stuff, etc. The last I went there were a couple buildings to check out. Each one is specific to what is inside. One of the best kept secrets of things to do – especially if you have kids – in Michigan!
got all my maps, yours is the easiest site to navigate. Thanks for all your hard work!!
Thank you so much, I need maps for a project for our Cub Scout pack. This made my life so much easier!!
Umm Goob…. The Washington State travel guide you have to pay shipping and handling. Not exactly free.
Odd, they must have changed it. I’ll look for a new link.
Yeah, I know. It’s why I pointed out it costs money. I didn’t want to leave a state off!
You are amazing!!!! Thank You so much!!!! I’m redoing my son’s room to a “travel the world” theme and wanted maps to hang up on the wall… <3
This is simply fantastic! Thank you so much for your efforts!
You’re the best! Thank yu for your hard work! =)
Thanks so much for the effort! It’s time consuming just to order all these! I’m going to use all of them for homeschooling.
MICHIGAN LINK DOES NOT WORK ANYMORE EITHER
Both Michigan and Ohio links are working on my end.
THE OHIO LINK DOES NOT WORK. just to let you know
Thank you for this incredible resource!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! THANK YOU FOR ALL THE HARD WORK!
Thank you! This helped me a lot in collecting maps for my future wedding!
Thanks, I’ve requested a couple and I hope they turn out. I got lost clicking links for CA maps and only saw ones for purchase, any help there? -Paige
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ALL YOUR EFFORTS. IT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.
Please tell me you know Pawnee, Indiana is fake 🙂
Thanks Goob this is wonderful now if you could just my kids Geography homework we would be in business 🙂
Or this: “See how Georgia is commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War” !?! My money’s on burning Atlanta again!
“Free 2013 Georgia Travel Guide Featuring The Walking Dead” – Goob! How could you have missed this one?
All that’s left is Washington DC!
Washington is NOT free 🙁
You spelled Massachusetts correctly 🙂
Michigan’s Air Zoo is not a let down! It’s actually pretty cool with airplane symulators you can ride in and LOTS of authentic planes and other things to do! It’s in Kalamazoo which is another cool place to visit, especially if you’re into community theater and the arts! 😀
Tks for all your hard work by the way! Very cool too!!
someone asked about world or us maps, any word on those??? i would really like to have these. thanks!!!!
Thanks! Do you know how handy this will be to me as I do U.S. History with my son next year…awesome!
Arkansas is good for bass fishing and well fishing in general, if you live in Arkansas with your fishing license it is legal to fish along the Mississippi River on either side even while in the state of Mississippi. Arkansans don’t need a separate fishing license.
Thank you. I needed to laugh out loud today!
YOU ROCK! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR EFFORT & HARD WORK PUTTING THIS TOGETHER.
Thank you so much! I looked all over the internet, but finally on my third try I found your site. Thank you again!!
thanks
thanks for sending me this
Hi there-
Just wanted to let you know the link to the NH guidebook is out of date- the correct location is found here: http://visitnh.gov/planning-and-travel-tools/order-your-free-visitors-guide.aspx.
Thank you for your compliments on our website!
This is such a cool website! I wish I could have gotten the Washington state map though. : (
Great<a href=”http://tmz.com.ua”>,</a> really. I wish I could live in USA:(
I actually got a Connecticut state map through ConnDOT
http://www.ct.gov/DOT/site/default.asp
On the contact us/comment page, I inquired about requesting Connecticut state highway map. A guy e-mailed me the next day and mailed me a map free of charge.
The map is actually dubbed as an “Official State Tourism Map”, but the map is furnished by ConnDOT and contains all state and federal highways with city enlargments.
Washington state no longer prints maps!
I’ve updated all of the links that I found to be out of date. Thanks to everybody who helped contribute and keep this list fresh!
Thanks so much for this info. It really helped out with a Christmas present for my dad.
I was able to find a new site for WY.
Thanks again.
The NEW California tourism link is: http://www.visitcalifornia.com/
there are a few links that are not working anymore…
Goob, the California link isn’t working – help?
The link should be updated now.
Loved your comments couldnt imagine do that for all the states…wondering since the last posting was awhile ago, does all the info remain the same
Thank you so much for the previous information and I love this website. I was having a very hard time trying to get the folded maps. We are planning a trip and I want to plan what road I am taking through each state. I totally avoid all big cities and these state maps allow me to take roads where I can see how the people really live.
Thanks Again I have placed this website in my favorites.
Kansas: Topeka, Wichita, Kansas City, Great Bend, Junction City, Meade, Turon, Pretty Prairie, Hutcheson, Pratt, Olathe, Shawnee, … ok, I’m tired of typing now, and no, I didn’t cheat by looking at the map. 😉 (No, I don’t live there, either!)
This is where u can find a free hawaii guide that can be sent 2 ur house!
http://www.gohawaii.com/about_hawaii/visitor_guide
I hope i get something in the forums! thanx
Thanks for the free state maps! Do you know of any free US or World Maps? Thanks again for compiling this list.
I went to RI’s website – where you can order their ‘bike maps’, and clicked on “contact us” — I sent an email requesting a road map, and they mailed it right out!!
http://www.dot.ri.gov/customerservice/index.asp
Good luck! ?
Having trouble connecting to the order form site for Idaho. I can click on the brochures I want, but that’s how far I could get.
Free Hawaii State Visitor Guide @ Hawaii Visitor Guide
you can get a mailed Maine map here!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I had spent hours trying to get free state map from different states. By accident I ran across your site. and in less then 10 minutes i was able to call the last 4 states and get my maps order. My husband and I love traveling the back roads and take our time. Our GPS loves getting us on the freeways and interstates, I have made a favorite of this site, because we want to see all 50 states before we get too old to travel.
thanks again
Dot in Arkansas
Heres the site for the Connecticut Vacation Guide!
Goob: That doesn’t have a map in it.
Maybe it took you a long time, but THANK YOU! I’m on a road trip right now and it’s always such a bitch to find maps for every state. next time I’m going to be stocked up. : )
Kansas Cities: Wichita, Topeka, Hutchison, Newton.
How can any governor beat California’s Governator (unless you look at photos of him in a swim suit)
This site will send you real maps of any state INCLUDING Hawaii!!
http://mapathon.com/foldall.htm
Did I win something??
This site is so helpful! It saved me so much time and I love all of your comments about each state. I only needed maps for a few states but had to read each comment. Thanks!
This is wonderful-just in time for vacation time-love the museum list as well-THANK YOU!
re. the CT website:
I was born and still live in Connecticut. I whimsically refer to it as “The rectum of New England”.
Just to let you know as well. The Missouri page you just need to click on their map and it will take you straight to the order form for one to be mailed.
These are very informative, thanks for putting it together. I went to the Connecticut site and they NOW OFFER a free guide! Woo hoo! Thanks again!
Great! Thanks! Also thanks for saying that the state I live in has the best logo, Kentucky. Can’t wait for Derby this Saturday, I live less than a mile away from Churhill Downs.
Just FYI when you type in your e-mail for Mississippi & enter it brings up the screen to add your address info to orrder your tourism package

heres an order form for just the connecticut road map
Just got mine today…its great it has a travel guide and a really detailed map…SO nice to have!!! Thanks!
I got my map SOOO quickly! Thanks Goob!
Hey Goob: Want maps, Go to http://www.www.earth.com and download the free google earth program. It is a world-wide map program that you can zoom-in down to street level. You can also tilt and pan the 3-d images.
Kind of scarey the amount of time, money, and effort that was spent gathering the info.
Have a good one (or two), better yet get a six-pack and save some for me.
Doug.
Iowa has much more than just corn! Ever heard of the Iowa State Fair? It is the top rated fair in the country!
Goob,
It’s nice to know someone thinks our website is “pimped out”! By the way, we also have an In-State Handbook, which comes with a built-in map and listings of our welcome/information centers. You can access an e-book version of it online at http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/milesmedia/08NHI/#/0.
Cheers,

Just to let you know Goob, Arkansas, although it does have a horrible rep. is actually really cool and BEAUTIFUL in most places. I live in Missouri and we traveled there a couple of years ago and all of my misconceptions went out the window as soon as we hit those cool winding mountain roads.
Hey Goob,
As for Hawaii, just go to any of the islands for info and the guide comes up on the right hand side of the page. Thanks for all of the info on state maps ! you never know when you might need them.
Connecticut does offer a link to order their vacation guide on every page of their site. It is located in the left hand menu, where it says “Get your free Vacation Guide and Culture Guide” A map of the state is included with the guide, as a fold out back cover. http://www.ctvisit.com/ordervacationguide.aspx
Thanks, I’ve updated the list!
I LOVE the description about Idaho… Yep we Idahoans are Individuals 🙂 This is great.. Thanks for doing all this hard work!
This is great we are planning a trip to Gatalinburg Tn ths spring. The maps will be great
Wow, with a description of all of them, too.
Thanks, Goob!
P.S. This is the page for Wyoming
Thanks Goob. This is wonderful of you to post this.
And Connecticut has a form to order 100 maps for $20…a bit overkill if you ask me, but might be handy if you really like CT and want to wallpaper your house with their highways!
Hey I live in Virginia too! And I agree, not much going on.
btw, here’s a link to the Hawaii visitor’s guide. I don’t know if it comes with a map or not…
http://www.gohawaii.com/about_hawaii/visitor_guide
You know what they say, Goob: Everything’s big in Texas! 🙂
I go over to the visitor information center near my home every year and pick up the new Texas travel guide. It’s awesome!
Jennah, it’s nothing but bad luck for me! I’ve drank those memories into submission though, so we must leave it at that.
Rydergal, glad I could help. 🙂
This is AWESOME! We collect maps of each state we visit and put them up on the wall in my son’s room…but SC is a pain to get. It’s only available at the welcome centers (the other rest areas don’t seem to have them), and the welcome centers are only open 9-5…we’re always getting there after closing. We visit a good bit (my husband’s family lives there), but haven’t been able to get a map yet…I’m so glad we’ll finally get one. THANKS so much!
Glad I could help. 🙂
awwww – whachagot against MD?
Jennah, it’s nothing but bad luck for me! I’ve drank those memories into submission though, so we must leave it at that.
