Free USPS Informed Delivery

Ever wish you could see the freebies arriving in your mailbox before they show up? I know I have! What you may not realize is that you can!

The USPS offers a free service called Informed Delivery. Each morning, they'll email scanned photos of your mail hours before it's delivered!

I started using Informed Delivery during their 2015 soft trial. It was originally super buggy, but today I've actually come to rely on it. Not only does it actually work, but as of today over 25 million Americans are using this free service!

My emails typically arrive between before 8:00am each morning I have mail coming. If I don't have any mail on the way, I don't get an email. Only ~60% of my emails actually have scanned photos, but regardless the emails themselves are nice since they let me know I have mail to grab. And when there are photos of freebies, I tend to get a little excited! Between the emails and then actually getting the freebies, it's like double the joy 🙂

Have any other Hiffers used Informed Delivery yet? What did you think?

  1. I love, love, love this serivce! I have been using it for over 3 years. It’s very helpful when I’m out of town and want to know what mail arrived.

  2. Unfortunately it’s still not available in Cow Dung Pokey Town. I’m signed up and occasionally check with the local post office, but nada.

  3. I love using this. I can decide if the mail I’m getting that day is worth a trip all the way downstairs in my building to the mailbox.

  4. I have used it since last December. I love it. It shows pictures if the mail you are getting but it doesn’t show the packages. It tells you the tracking number though. I also get a lot of magazine’s and when they arrive it usually says they don’t have an image for an item being delivered. But it’s nice to know what I’m getting, and deciding if I need to wait till the mail runs or not.

  5. Mind. blown. Hope this is helpful! I mail packages out very often and sometimes I want to know if the mail came for the day. Maybe this will help some!

  6. I signed up for Informed Delivery when it first rolled out, but I still have yet to actually receive a photo of my incoming mail / packages.

  7. I used it in the past and didn’t really find it helpful as most of what I get is junk mail. My mail drop is into my house so I don’t have to worry about theft. I still get email about packages that will be delivered and also notification when delivered. Again I don’t find this useful as tracking information doesn’t tell you who package is for or who sent it. Most are for my daughter in any case and delivery is to my porch on the side of the house which is not visible to the street.

  8. I’ve used the USPS Informed Delivery process for some time now, and it’s super helpful to know what is being delivered that day. I think it would be extra helpful to those whose mailbox is not at the end of their driveway like mine, or those who have a P.O. box.
