Is this for breast cancer awareness thing? On that thought you notice there is not much Ovarian cancer which affect a lot of woman and basically almost zero cure?

    Just thinking

My mother died from breast cancer in February. 84 years old. Never had a breast exam in her life.

  3. #3 Lady CeeCee |

Men also get breast cancer, so Goob, feel free to feel your boobies too!

  4. #4 Rev. Robin |

Chris is right. Our ability to detect ovarian cancer is minimal, at best. Regular gyne exams give us a false sense of security as MANY cases go undetected until it’s too late. Another big problem with ovarian cancer is that there is often NO SYMPTOMS. Even when there are symptoms, we don’t equate them with OC ( ie. abdominal bloating, mistaken for gastric distress, etc…)
At least w/breast cancer we may feel a lump/ nodule/ irregularity and mammograms are slightly more definative than a PAP smear.
**Rely on your own common sense, be vigilant about your health and know what is normal for your body. Learn all the warning signs of ALL cancers and be proactive. Most times we can sense when there is an issue with our health if we could just learn NOT to ignore those early warnings!
**IF YOU HAVE A FAMILY HISTORY OF CANCER, GET REGULAR EXAMS………….
Earlier than normally recommended, AND OFTEN!!!!!

(My aunt was just diagnosed w/stage 4 colorrectal cancer, no outstanding signs/warnings. She should’ve had her rectal exam at 50 and if she had, her chances of survival would be much greater!!! She’s 54!!!)

Yes Goob, you are indeed correct. Men DO get breast cancer and it’s more common than we may think!!

    So, EVERYONE SHOULD………”Feel their BOOBIES”

  6. #6 Rev. Robin |

Sorry Adam. This was your posting, we’re all so used to Goob. This just sounded like his humor, and I never paid attention to the name!! You guys must think sort of alike. You are best friends, right??
    Sorry : (

Also, we entirely missed September as prostate cancer month. . .men need to get a louder voice in the health division! If we women need to feel our boobies, then men need to. . .uhh, ummm. . .make a medical appointment and cough! ;)

Ladies, can I feel YOUR boobies?

  9. #9 Allie |

Adam/Goob, could someone please remove post #8 from Ben D.? I’m sure I am not the only reader to find it offensive. Thank you.

  10. #10 Melissa |

As someone who has had mastectomies in my 20s, I find all the breast cancer jokes a little offensive. Remember, you guys are funny in general, but you don’t have to try to be funny all of the time! :) There are some things that aren’t necessarily funny, like joking about health issues and tragedies.

Allie & Melissa, how about this: when people visit YOUR website, you dictate how people are supposed to interact, and when you visit somebody else’s site, you remember that you are not in charge of anything. I don’t see any disrespectful comments/jokes about breast cancer.

As for Ben D.’s comment, it’s a bit juvenile, but who cares? Don’t call attention to it, then it loses its power.
The internets are rife with unimaginable stuff… if you get your feathers ruffled over such little things, it may not be the place for you.

Roving “net nannies” are sad little people, and far more of a hindrance to any internet community than your perceived offenses.

For the record: joking about health issues is hysterical. How can you not laugh at the idea of Runner’s Nipple, as Adam was referring to?

  12. #12 Melissa |

Wolfwerx, the real irony of your post is that you’re telling other people how to behave.

  13. #13 Wolfwerx |

I’m not telling anybody what to do. I’m making a suggestion in the first paragraph. The rest of my post is all observational. No irony involved.

See? Poor reading comprehension causes problems.

To everybody else, I apologize if my first post came off as “flaming” or “trolling” that was not my intent.

  14. #14 Allie |

Wow, talk about making a big deal… My two sentence comment spurred a three paragraph rant!

  15. #15 Larry |

Men do indeed get breast cancer. My step father had to have a mastectomy a couple of years ago. And the other day they found out that the cancer had returned. And they are not really sure what they are going to do.

  16. #16 Larry |

    * I am not sure if it is still called a mastectomy in men or not. I am getting the info from mom because he doesn’t think any1 should know.

    Sorry for the double post.

  17. #17 Melissa |

Larry, I’m sorry to hear about your step-father (and also about the other people here who have loved ones with cancer). Yes, it is called a mastectomy in men, too. Breast cancer in men is not common, but is more common in families with a genetic mutation (BRCA1+ or BRCA2+). He may be interested and encouraged to know that Richard Roundtree and Montel Williams are two men who had mastectomies.

  18. #18 Kristin |

Wolfwerx I agree with your post completely. we are becoming a society where being PC is all that matters and not offending people. come on. if you don’t like the comment get over it. don’t read it. people should be able to voice their opinions. And if Ben D. decided to feel my boobies and found a lump, well then i’d be grateful.

  19. #19 josh |

melissa/allie please grow up. there was clearly no malice in this thread until you two aimed to create it.

there was a little immaturity at most, something you trumped well over by crying for attention and power with stupid demands and requests. the guys’ retarded, so what? i’m sure you’d probably be fine with seeing something similar but about men in a thread about prostate health.

please try to ignore the idiots and stop turning small, stupid things into something to argue over. your liberties were not infringed.
