Free Kids Books From Barnes & Noble
Barnes & Noble have a sweet program set up for kids in grades 1 through 6 this summer where if they read eight books, they can receive a free book. If there’s one thing I know kids absolutely love to do over the summer, it’s read!
- Kids read any eight (8) books of their own choosing.
- Kids use the Summer Reading Journal to tell us their favorite part of each book. A parent/guardian signs the journal when it’s complete. You can also get a Spanish-language Reading Journal.
- Children bring their completed Reading Journal to a Barnes & Noble store between May 26th & September 7th, 2009.
- We’ll give them a coupon for a FREE book! They choose from a list of exceptional paperback titles.
It’s win-win for everybody involved, as it’ll get your children to read a little over the summer while also helping you avoid the continuous “I’m bored, I’m bored, I’m bored” barrage.

My kids do this every summer, and they love it. There is a long list of books to choose your free one from, so the only hard part is when they have to pick the one they want most. Also the books that they read don’t have to be purchased from B&N, they can be books from home or ?. And if you have a summer reading program at your local library, you can earn double credit by using library books and then listing them on both this promotion and the one from the library. Read a book, get credit in two different places. Cheating?, no… incentive to read?, yes!
i want to know more about your summer reading program.
Why is it just for grades 1-6? My kids are teenagers and they read a ton of books so this would have been perfect if not for the age restriction.
This is great but my son is only going into Kindergarten next year. Although he can’t read he loves when we read together (I read to him). It would be nice to have a program for him for reading and getting free books or something (and we’re in FL so there is no half-priced books store near us). :0(
