Bruegger’s Birthday Freebie

Free Brueggers Birthday Freebie

Last Updated: 10-31-2012

Here’s a question: why do so many email offers, like the one for Bruegger’s birthday freebie, have those stupid lines on them? Who is designing these emails and why are they stuck using mid 90s computer coding?

Signup Freebie: Free bagel with cream cheese.
Birthday Freebie: Free bagel with cream cheese with the purchase of a drink.

But most emails aren’t meant to be printed. Even their regular emails with run of the mill offers or calendar of specials have the lines all over them.

Email clients don’t use CSS :( so we are stuck with archaic HTML tables.

To start out, I used to work at Bruegger’s, so I know how accepting coupons at the register works: we don’t scan any bar codes; there are no individualized coupons.  This means that when you get a coupon for a free cookie or the signup coupon for the free bagel, all you have to do is open it up in an image editing program (MS paint even) and change the expiration date.  The font is 10.5 Arial bold.
