Martin Luther King Jr. Day is observed on the third Monday of January each year. It's not a holiday that traditionally is associated with freebies. However, to spread the word, the government is giving away free MLK Day promotional items every year. I still have my door hangers from 2011!

While at the beach last summer, I could have their free MLK bookmark. After finishing a chapter, I wanted to go take a dip in the ocean but didn't have a bookmark. I started to dog ear the page, but then came up the ingenious plan to make a bookmark! I grabbed a handful of sand, mashed it together tightly, and stuck it in the book.

Yeah, that didn't work.

Moo continues to offer one of the freebie classics of 10 free business cards. I first posted this freebie in 2010 and a decade late it's still kicking!

If it's anything like before, then the free business cards will arrive in your mailbox within days. Unfortunately I don't have anybody to give these out to. I don't think I've ever had a single person ask me for my card, but that might be because I never leave my home and only converse with imaginary friends.


Free Energy Conservation Kit from TVA

This free energy conservation starter kit from the Tennessee Valley Authority is only available to parts in the Southeast, such as AL, GA, KY, MS, NC, TN, and VA. However, I'm posting it because it comes with two compact fluorescent light bulbs, outlet and light switch gaskets, filter whistle, two faucet aerators, hot water temperature gauge, home thermometer, and a “How to Save” brochure.

I have no idea what a faucet aerator or switch gasket is, but they sound cool. At the very least, I'm sure they could help me with my time machine. So far I've built the core unit and perfected making the “BZZZZZZZZZ … KERPHEW!” sound with my mouth. I just hope time travel actually sounds like that. Otherwise, I'm just some doofus making a weird noise in a large metal box!


Free Magic: The Gathering Deck

To say that I was a nerd growing up would imply that I'm no longer a nerd now. And seriously, how much more geeky could I be than writing for a freebie website and listening to podcasts while playing Dungeons and Dragons on Facebook? Yeah, exactly.

Back in November, I happened across a freebie that made me a bit nostalgic… See, in high school, I was a bit more of a nerd than I am now. I played Magic: The Gathering, Star Wars Collectible Card Game, and a vampire collectible card game. Yup, I'd scrounge up my money and buy decks of “collectible cards” that were supposedly worth “money.” And then, I remember the day that Pokemon cards came around, and all of my cards? Were worth about what I paid for one deck. Le sigh.

But now, I don't feel as bad by requesting this free deck of Magic: The Gathering cards. Because after I receive this free deck? I shall rule the world!

Until the new set comes out and totally pwns me… 🙁

Wow, it feels like I haven't posted a freebie in years. I've finally vanquished the bubonic plague that tried to take me down this past week, so I guess it's back to normal from here on out. I'm not sure I remember how to post a freebie though. Let's see, I used to ramble a little bit and then I'd make an uncomfortable segue to the freebie, like this free emergency radio. Then I'd toss in a closing zinger to wrap up the post into a neat little package before hitting the “publish” button.

Phew, good to know I haven't lost my touch!

The U.S. Fire Administration have countless free publications available on their website. They have a whole host of pictographs, fire prevention posters, inforgraphs, handouts, pamphlets, and more.

I didn't order any since I'm a bit paste the stage where I put posters on my wall, but I'm sure there are a few parents out there who might be interested in getting a few for their kids. It's either these or a bunch of Hannah Montana & High School Musical posters, which incidentally are the #1 source of fires in the Goob household. I can't stand those freaking things and watching them burn is fun!

Dry erase boards are awesome for hanging up next to your desk and being used to jot down important little notes and reminders that you promptly forget all about after writing them. Of course, you'll need a few free dry erase markers to write down that appointment next week that you'll miss or the phone call to return that you never will!

The sites listed below offer free pens for your whiteboards. In order to get your free dry erase marker sample, click the “Request a Free Sample” button on each site and fill out the shipping form.

These black markers are used for printing promotional samples, so they won't be brand name like expo markers. But they'll come full of ink and in many cases, they are unbranded markers from similar name brand supplies. So the freebies work perfect for classroom use, around the house, or in office settings. These markers also clean off white boards with normal alcohol or xylene cleaner.

You might get a follow-up email asking if you want to purchase more erasers or different colors, but these are not a bill. They're just an upsell attempt that can be ignored.

Sometimes you can get free whiteboard markers from sites like PINCHme too. I don't believe they currently have any samples, but it's always worth checking to see if they've restocked lately!


Free Can Koozie

If you're anything like me, you hate touching anything cold. In fact, almost every woman in my life thinks it's hilarious to wait until their hands are ice cold and then grab my arm or face with them. What is up with that, ladies?! Come on! Us men are not fans of that! So with that said, you can understand why I'd be signing up for one of these free koozies to keep my beverages chilled but my hands nice and toasty (you can see examples of the different options here). Unfortunately, it's freezing where I live right now and I'm bundled in about 19 blankets, so I doubt I'll be able to use this thing anytime soon!

This is actually a contest to win a car as well as a trip to Miami to see a race, but just for entering they'll send you a free NASCAR poster which features Matt Kenseth, Mark Martin, Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards. I never did get into NASCAR. I always felt if I was gonna watch something that was a borderline sport, I might as well watch some celebrity poker and laugh every now and then.
