It's been a while since I last posted anything about the Books Unbanned initiative.
As part of it, any teenager in America can receive a free Public Library card from Brooklyn, Boston, Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, or Long Beach. This is designed to combat censorship and provide expanded digital access to books that are locally banned. With their new cards, teens can then check out any ebook or audiobook from wherever the live nationwide!
This freebie is open to anyone ages 13-26 and can be redeemed directly online at your branch of choice.
Just during the recent 2024-2025 school year, there were 3,743 unique books banned across the nation, from classics like Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury to modern bestsellers such as The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.
Now, thanks to these six great public libraries, the 2+ million students affected by these ludicrous book bans now have guaranteed access to these titles.
