Nielsen Pulse – Earn Rewards by Scrolling!

Nielsen not only runs the popular Consumer Panel (which they're currently accepting applications for, if you haven't submitted one already), but they also have a program called Nielsen Pulse.

So what's Pulse? It's their version of an online-centric habit panel, where select users are chosen to represent a larger population and understand their digital behavior with TV and mobile devices. This is similar to how they select users to temporarily install devices to track their TV habits, which is where the “Nielsen Rating” comes from when talking about television ratings. My family actually did this for two years and it was fun knowing that we were impacting the ratings for shows we loved.

With Pulse, Nielsen will anonymize your digital activities, the content you watch on TV, the apps you use, and the websites you visit on your mobile devices provide key insights into media trends. Whether you use your devices a lot or a little, your participation is a valuable contribution to our research.

So what's in it for you? Cash!

Participating will earn rewards on a points system, which can be redeemed for Amazon, PayPal, Venmo, eBay, or virtual Mastercards. $1 is equal to 150 points and you'll earn points as follows:

  • 75 points just for registering (once)
  • 150 points for taking the initial eligibility survey (once)
  • 100 points per connected account (Prime Video, Netflix, YouTube with more to come)
  • 150 points per added device, up to 5 devices (one time per device)

Then, if selected, you'll get daily points

  • Up to 15 points per day per phone or tablet (3 dollars per month, $36 per year)
  • Up to 75 points per day for connected TV plus a 225‑point bonus every 15 days (18 dollars per month, $216 per year)

The minimum needed to redeem rewards is 740 points, which equals $5. If you get selected and reach all the daily goals, then you'll come out to earning a little over $250 a year for full participation without having to actually do anything for it!
