Three Free Books from Crown Publishing

It seems that our fearless leader’s brother’s 21st birthday has left him out of commission a little longer than just two days… Just in case he doesn’t return by the end of the day today, I’d be sure to request all three of these free books from Crown Publishing, hope they come fast, and spend a loooooooong time reading the excerpts available online while refreshing this site…

Me? I’ve got a wool sweater to shave and more sleep to catch up on…

With the temps at 16/6 today a good book, snuggled under the covers with the fireplace blazing. Would be my cup of tea for sure! :-) Or a nice cup of hot chocolate loaded with marshmallows. Crumpets anyone?

When this company offered this free item before, they never followed through….. I’m very disappointed that people still promote this freebee when this is obviously a fake.

  12. #12 April |

I have never gotten ONE book from these free book offers, but I HAVE gotten a lot of UNWANTED E-MAILS from the companies.

  13. #13 Sue |

I’ve also never received a “free” book, as offered. Wonder why their website offers them, but doesn’t follow through? Maybe it is a very limited offer….has anyone out there received any?

  14. #14 Reality |

Holly, I think these book freebies are fake too!
I ordered from these people & Random house when the “3 books” were offered a long time ago as freebies & STILL have not received them! It seems to me that these are just ways for them to collect our personal information without delivering the offered goods!

I actually received the book on something to do with the history of golf. It was a really nice hardcover coffee table sized book. I gave it to my dad. (although it wasn’t from Crown Publishing)

  22. #22 Newbie |

Oh no! I wish I had read the comments before I signed up for a free book. I should have known not to get my hopes up for a freebie. Oh well I can go to the library and get all the free books I want!

  23. #23 Debbie |

I’m not an insider at Read it Forward, but am a book reviewer outside of it and had some observations after trying to request their books several times.

First, they have now changed this from being a freebie type offer to being a contest. For a while, you could enter for each book once, with a window of opportunity lasting for a month. This current month, the books were only offered for a week’s window within the month.

If you are one of the winners, you’ll receive an e-mail stating which book you won and that it was sent. I received one of these e-mails 36 days ago and have no book to show for it. Is it possible the post office is that slow? Well, yes, but I’m not holding my breath. The books do exist, though. They’re called ARCs (an acronym for advanced reader/review copy). They’re sent out to reviewers free of charge for advanced reading and review. Probably these are left over copies that weren’t given to reviewers–which would explain them having limited copies. I am a book reviewer, and these are some of the books I am offered (but have thus far never picked) for review. Most companies who offer this type of deal are hoping readers will review the books and provide free advertising for them on blogs and on online booksellers’ websites. Thomas Nelson is another publisher with such a free book program (theirs is called BookSneeze). This has become so widespread that the FTC has had to make a law relating to receiving books for free and then reviewing them, especially in the case of blogs.

I do believe this is real, but I think the publisher got in way over their heads and is now adjusting to the demand that the program has generated (moving from it being a freebie to a contest, moving from the offer lasting a month to a week, possibly not sending out books to those who win, etc.).
