Free Solar Eclipse Glasses

The next total solar eclipse is on April 8, 2024 and should be visible in Texas before moving northeast through Oklahoma, Missouri, Ohio, New York, and Maine. If you're planning to go see it and want to protect your precious eyeballs, then you can visit over 10,000 participating public libraries and get a free pair of solar-viewing glasses.

This interactive map contains a list of library systems currently offering these freebies. Even though they've given away over 5 million glasses – indicating they have a large supply – I'd call ahead to your local branch and confirm they still have some in stock. There was an eclipse earlier this month and I imagine a lot of places haven't fully restocked just yet.

I've scheduled this post to republish in early 2024 as well just in case anybody needs another reminder 😎
