Coupon: Free Hass Avocado

Tonight, I got the strangest craving for cheesy waffle fries. Covered with bacon bits. I mean, seriously, how great would that be? Just chop up some jalapeno pepper to throw on top and maybe a little bit of jack cheese too? Oh so perfect…

But I know that if I get this free Hass avocado, well, I’ll be having a lot healthier sort of fat. Maybe I can still have some cheese sauce on it…

Poo, it’s a printable coupon. Oh well. I don’t like avocados anyway (too bland), except in guacamole.

    :( no printer

Can anyone tell what the actual expiration date is? I printed it at work on a high quality printer and it still came out blurred. I tried copying it to a MicrosoftWord doc and expanding the coupon….still cannot tell the date.

I do not think the stores will take it without a clear expiration date. They are quite leery of ‘free’ coupons. :(

it looks like 12/31/2010. that’s what I see for a date. it is really tiny.

None of my grocery stores will take an internet coupon for “Free” food. Farm Fresh, Food Lion, Harris Teeter.

I am in Virginia, too. Kroger won’t even take a BOGO coupon. Wal-mart will–depending on who the cashier is–but they look at you like you’re a convicted felon.

the exp. date is 12/01/10 and the great thing is you can print as many of the coupons you want . yum-o

FYI, I’m a cashier and this does not say ‘manufacturer’s coupon’, just ‘store coupon’, so most likely most places will NOT takes this.

My store would not take an internet coupon for a free item. They will take BOGO internet coupons, or so the cashier told me.

It’s a manufacturer’s coupon…..on the coupon it says- Retailer: Mexican Hass Avacado Importers will reimburse you for the shelf price of a Hass avacado yadda, yadda, yadda. Any coupon that gives instructions for the store to get reimbursed is a manufacturer’s coupon. That’s how you tell the difference between a coupon that a store, (say Target) puts out for use in their store only and a mfr. coupon. If it’s a store coupon then there’s no need to get reimbursed from the mfr. so no instructions will be on the coupon. Some coupons won’t even have mfr. or anything written on them except the reimbursement instructions but they are still legit coupons. You can point that out if the store balks at taking it. All the stores here (OKC) take internet coupons….just one store chain won’t take printed coupons for free items so we’re lucky!

FYI, it does say 1 avocado per store visit and cashiers are reading coupons a lot more closely these days so so if you want multiples you may have to take your avocado, go to your car and then go back in. The reason they do this is because at the end of the day the coupons they have must match their cash receipts EXACTLY or the mfr. will not reimburse them so they might not let you buy more than 1 at a time if the coupon states 1 per visit because the mfr. will not honor more than coupon per receipt so the store will be out the money. Sorry for the TMI….I teach coupon classes and my daughter has a working relationship with the CIC (Coupon Information Corporation) and a lot people don’t realize how the stores lose money when they accept unreimburseable coupons. But it is perfectly acceptable to make multiple trips into the store as long as the coupon doesn’t say “1 per visit, per day”.

Pshaw…don’t take the avacado back to the car…take as many coupons you have and that many avacados..put an order seperator on the belt between all the avacados per coupon you have, make sure you have several one dollar bills to pay cash for each one (to lessen the time it takes to purchase and so there is no record of multiple consecutive purchases made by ONE person) and most cashiers seriously won’t question it because it will all be rung up as seperate purchases and will fulfill the manufacturer requirements…just do it during a non-peak time of the store…like around 3:00 so any other patrons don’t get pissed. Done Deal.

Edit to comment above: The reason you need cash is because you will still have to pay the tax on each of the free items.

unless you live in NJ where you don’t pay tax on food…. btw, i went to Foodtown, and they dont take free coupons. plus, when i printed out this coupon, the small print was unreadable, it must have been the crappy laser jet printer at the library.

I love avocados. What a great coupon! Thanks!

there is no tax on avacados in New York so good for me just look for the sorta dumb cashier who is smart enough to take off the coupon but too dumb to call a manager over to make sure its ok!!! LOL

  19. #19 amy |

my grocery store wouldn’t take it because the coupon is for a Mexican avocado and all they sell are California avocados. Arghhh

  20. #20 Scarlett |

Tried using my coupon at the local Safeway grocery store last night. They said they no longer accept any coupons marked “free” because they do not know if they are fake or not.

  21. #21 tess |

Ingles Grocery Stores, in the Southeast, will not accept these according to the store manager.

I had the same problem with the Kraft First Taste coupon for free mac & cheese last week. And could the cashier have been any nastier about it? I don’t think so. Luckily, I know people at that store. So I told HerNastiness that I’d like the manager to make the determination. She went and got him after some (can you say this here? let’s find out —>) bitching. He came over, looked at it, told her to accept the coupon and apologized for her weirdness. So try going to a store where people know you and know you’re not some heinous coupon thief looking to score big by running a printing press for counterfeit coupons in your basement. Worked for me. Let’s see if it works with this one.

Fred Meyer took it today, no questions asked!
