If you previously received the Quiznos birthday freebie, but noticed recently that you didn't get an offer, then you probably need to rejoin their loyalty program. Like so many other restaurants, they moved from an email to an app rewards program. Thus, your birthday sub offer will appear within the app under the “Rewards” tab.

If you don't see anything there on your birthday, then be sure to also check the “Inbox” tab.

The Rally's birthday freebie is pretty much the same as their sister company Checkers. The only real difference I see between the two of them is their state locations.

As with Checkers, Rally's will also send you bonus offers in the run-up to your birthday. And you can also get the free food by joining their text club. Just use your Google Voice number to text REWARDS to 88001.

Free Idaho Scenic Byway Stickers

Free Idaho Scenic Byway Stickers

Once again I believe for a limited time, you can request five of these free Idaho scenic byway stickers! These pair great with our free state maps list.

They've given these away a few times before and they always go fast!

You have to click each sticker before filling out the address form! It took me way too long to figure this out. In my defense, I never claimed to be smrt.

[thanks to Hiffer Samantha for sending these in!]

2021 Free Fishing Days

2024 Free Fishing Days

The free 2024 fishing days have been announced for all 50 states and DC! On these specific days, unique to each state, you are allowed to fish without a fishing license. Most of the 2024 dates seem to fall around early June, but there are plenty of May, July, and August dates on there as well.

Most freebie sites only list the dates, but I've put in the extra work and found all the corresponding links & announcements to back them up. Below are all 50 states free fishing dates along with links for proof! To learn more about your local free fishing opportunities, scroll down to your state, click through to the website, and read all about your state regulations.

Make sure to check your state's official website for extra details. Some states actually offer free fishing rods, tackle, and bait during their free fishing weekends!

On a related note, I learned about the existence of fishing licenses the hard way. I was grateful the game warden took pity on me when he saw I not only failed catching a single fish, but was also tangled in the fishing line when he pulled up.

Saved by my own ineptitude!

You know, there's a strong chance I never make it to fatherhood. Thankfully I can still join the Flavorhood to get Checkers birthday freebie, so they've got me covered.

In addition to the birthday offer, Checkers frequently sends bonus offers in the run-up to your birthday. For example, here are the deals they gave me a week before my birthday in 2024:

  • $1.49 Large Fry
  • $2 off total
  • Free 4pc Monsterella with any $4 purchase
  • BOGO Chicken Bites Box & Fries

Finally, I want to note they offer a great signup freebie for joining their text club. Don't want your personal phone to be spammed by a fast food joint? Neither do I, which is why I tell people to use a Google Voice number! To get this free food, text REWARDS to 88001.

Free Kids Summer Reading Programs for free books and prizes

2024 Kids Summer Reading Freebies & Deals

As long as you count the back of cereal boxes, I'm quite the voracious reader. I read on average two books a month and if your children are anything like me, they might be interested in this list I compiled of free summer reading programs! I've been updating this list since 2014 and was pretty surprised at how many of the offers still existed in 2024!

Below are all of the 2024 summer reading freebies and deals for kids! Most follow the “read X books, get 1 free” model, but there are a few that differ. Hopefully your little one enjoys reading or at least getting freebies 🙂

I also have an idea I wanted to pass along. With some of these programs, you earn a free book off a list of available books. If your child reads this summer, but isn't interested in the freebies, consider donating them! School and public library are always desperate for books. Donating them to The Salvation Army or Goodwill is another possibility. Regardless, showing your child that freebies can be fun and helpful to others is a cool idea!

Finally, if you're still looking for additional summer reading resources, then I would start with this collection of summer reading information from the NEA.

Confirmed 2024 Summer Reading Freebies

Barnes & Noble – For kids in grades 1-6, get a free book after reading 8 books and filling out a Reading Journal by August 31.

For adults in many year's past, they could get a free tall hot or iced coffee from the cafe by sharing your child's school required reading list, but I'm uncertain if they brought this offer back this year or not. They also have coupons and discounts listed under the “Coupons & Deals” tab.

Books-A-Million – Read 4 books from their list and write about each book on this logbook, then take the form in-store to get a free Wings of Fire dragon hat.

Chuck E. Cheese – They have a ton of methods for kids to earn freebies, from good grades to sports achievements to reading in Spanish or English! This reading rewards calendar doesn't expire until 12/31/25 and gets 10 free Play Points with any food purchase.

Department of Defense – The DOD offers a summer reading program for military families & children stationed worldwide. In partnership with iREAD Summer Reading, library programs will include activities, graphics, crafts, reading lists, incentives, and much more for children, teens, and adults.

For more information, please contact your installation library (here's a full list with direct links!) or email them.

Half Price Books – Registration is now open! Starting on June 1, children 14 and under who read 300 minutes over June and July (that's only 5 mins/day) will earn $5 free Bookworm Bucks and a camp stickers sheet. There are also additional summer reading activities.

Teens can also earn HPB Bookworm Bucks by reading any of the listed titles and writing a short review.

New York Times – This will be their 15th annual Summer Reading Contest. Every Friday from June 9 through August 18, any middle and high-school student can read one article in the NYT and write in about why they read it or what interested them. As of this year, they can also manke a video up to 90 seconds long!

At the end of the week, judges from the Times newsroom pick favorite responses and publish them here. Aside from broadening their horizon's and randomly posting some of the selected weekly responses, there doesn't look to be any “reason” to do this. Still, 15-year-old-Goob would have gone crazy over this offer so maybe there's a kindred Hiffer out there who would enjoy this.

Pizza Hut – This classic program lets children earn a free personal pan pizza in exchange for reading anything over the summer. Parents can sign up and track their child's progress online without any forms.

Public Libraries – Be sure to check with your local libraries, as they often host multiple weekly, monthly, and seasonal events and reading competitions.

Reading with the Rays – Florida children can read anything they desire and receive free baseball prizes! Each child who completes their Reading with the Rays game card is eligible for two (2) free Lower Reserved tickets, subject to availability. Other prizes include a bookmark, lanyard, and hanging felt banner.

Here are the eligible game date:

Scholastic – May 9 through September 12, kids can log their reading time online as part of the Scholastic Summer Reading ‘Home Base' Program. Over the course of 10 weeks, kids can unlock digital rewards as they complete weekly reading challenges; and access book excerpts, videos, and other summer-exclusive content. Home Base is moderated for safety 24/7.

Maintaining a reading streak will also unlock donations of 100,000 books from Scholastic to kids in rural America with limited or no access to books.

Showcase Cinemas – Bookworm Wednesday rewards your little one with free admission to a select children's film when they present a book report. Accompanying parents or guardians and children under six years of age receive free admission and do not need to submit a book report!

Previous Summer Reading Deals Unconfirmed for 2024

The items below were summer reading deals during 2018-2022. If I find confirmation they'll return this year, I'll move them up above.

American Girl – Select locations in large cities are being held for girls ages 8 and up. Kids get to decorate their own bookmark and summer reading log and can take home a doll-sized poster.

DOGOBooks – Ten participants who review the most books will be eligible to win a Prize Pack of seven books shown on the site. The next twenty-five participants with the most reviews will be eligible to win a $10 Gift Card.

H-E-B – Texas children can take part in the H-E-Buddy summer reading club. They have to read 10 books, including 1 Read-3 book, and send in this form by October 1 in order to receive a “cool prize,” which looks to be a free t-shirt.

H‑E‑Buddy Summer Reading Program
10530 Sentinel
San Antonio, TX 78217

LifeWay – Take your completed Summer Reading Journal to the register at your local LifeWay store to get one of nine books plus receive a free Bible, while supplies last.

SYNC – I hate to say that SYNC has officially ended after 14 year. This was a free program that offered audiobooks each week to teens at least 13 years old. Two audiobooks were available each week through the Sora reading app, but unfortunately they ended this program in 2024.

TD Bank – We can't forget the classic offer by TD Bank! Kids in grades K-5 have from June 1 until Aug. 31 to read 10 books. They'll be rewarded with cold, hard cash in the form of $10 added to their free savings account.

Free 2024-25 Student Planners

Free Student Planners for 2024-25

Positive Promotions is back with a free 2024-25 student planner. Just signup here and hope you snag one while supplies last. It does appear as if this is meant for bulk buyers of student planners (like school officials), but Positive Promotions has held offers like this going back to (checks HIF archives) 2007! So they have a fairly good track record of fulfilling freebies like this, but they just tend to expire quickly. I'd be surprised if this form was still active tomorrow.

Free Foster Love Stickers

Free Foster Love Stickers

Foster Love is offering a freebie sticker sheet containing 5 free Foster Love stickers. If you'd like to receive yours, please fill out the form here and be sure to enter your address so they know where to send them.

I'm gonna be honest – I don't know if this form is submitting correctly. It works just fine, but it seems to only show the street address. I can't tell if it's accurately submitting the city, state, and zip code or not.

Free Kids In-Store Events Schedule

Calendar of Next Free Kids In-Store Events

It can get a little confusing keeping track of all the great, free in-store kids events. So I've put together this comprehensive list of all the stores we track.

Current In-Store Kids Events

Home Depot – These monthly events are held from 9am-noon on the first Saturday of each month. They're designed for children aged 5-12 and pre-registration is required.

JCPenney – The Kids Zone events are each month on the second Saturday from 11am-12pm. They include a freebie to take home, ID badge, lanyard, collector's pin, and more. Parents also receive a free 10% coupon good for that day online. No registration is required.

Lowe's – Their monthly kids DIY events are still going strong after all these years! Registration opens a month early and then head to your local Lowe's on the designated day from 10am-1pm. A Red Vest employee from Lowe's will guide you and your child through a kid-friendly craft project that changes each month.

Michaels – As of 2024, these free in-store events are back! They tend to last for 2 hours, all supplies are included, and you need to RSVP your spot.

Pottery Barn – Here's another great in-store event that has returned with monthly frequency in 2024! You must RSVP your spot.

Upcoming In-Store Kids Events

Apple – Their summer Apple Camp is currently allowing people to sign up for notification when registration opens. This typically happens, along with the release of more details, around late May or early June.

Bass Pro Shops – Their summer events typically run throughout June, July, or August.

Lego – These monthly-themed events have recently shifted to varying days, depending on your local store. But kids still get to build a take-home LEGO toy. Some Hiffers have reported their local Lego stores have already phased these events out, so please make sure to call ahead!

Previous In-Store Kids Events

Joann Crafts – They haven't offered a free craft event since January 2024, so I believe these are on hiatus.

Target – They're monthly events are held on random Saturdays, usually near the end of the month, during late morning hours. They're often related to upcoming kids movies or events, with free games, prizes, and giveaway.

Know of any repeating, free in-store kids events I should start covering? Please let me know in the comments!
